York Against Cancer runs the Leveson Centre — a warm, welcoming, non-clinical space for people affected by cancer in York. They provide person-centred support services that help people feel seen, understood and supported throughout their cancer journey.

The Role

York Against Cancer is looking for a hands-on Care & Support Manager to lead and develop their person-centred support services at the Leveson Centre, and to nurture the volunteers and small team who make the Centre a welcoming and supportive environment for all those affected by cancer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery and development of high-quality, non-clinical cancer support at the Leveson Centre
  • Create a safe, calm, welcoming environment where people feel seen, understood and supported
  • Lead safeguarding and welfare concerns with confidence and care
  • Manage and develop volunteers including check-ins, boundaries, wellbeing and reflective practice
  • Line manage the Care & Support Coordinator to ensure excellent front-of-house support
  • Build relationships with NHS and community partners to strengthen signposting and pathways
  • Review impact and report service use and outcomes to support funding and growth
  • Support events and outreach as a visible ambassador for York Against Cancer

Requirements

  • Experience delivering or managing support services in health, social care or a charity setting
  • Experience supporting people affected by cancer or long-term conditions
  • Experience managing or supervising staff and/or volunteers
  • Safeguarding experience and the confidence to lead on it
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to handle emotional situations with empathy
  • Strong person-centred approach, integrity, resilience and adaptability
  • Knowledge of cancer services and voluntary sector experience is desirable

What They Offer

  • £33,000 – £35,000 per annum
  • 32 hours across a 4-day week plus 3 flexible hours
