Delivery Overview
In 2026 char.gy expects to be awarded multiple contracts with Local Government organisations and private landlords to deploy Charging Points (CPs) across the UK and ultimately expect to deploy over 60,000 CPs by 2030.
The Delivery Team is growing to meet this demand, and we require a Field Services Manager to manage a team of professionals that deliver electrical installation, small works, maintenance and repair activities across multiple regions in the UK. Quality of the network we create is essential to the success of the delivery projects as is the relationship with our customers, this role will ensure a safety first, high quality and high availability network of charging points is delivered and maintained.
Position Overview
The Field Services Manager will report to a Head of Delivery and manage a team of team leaders (Qualified Supervisors) that have a team of Project Engineers to deliver the work. The post holder will be empowered to support the Delivery Projects, Success Team and Customers using the tools provided to achieve the goals of char.gy and the contracts it signs. This leadership role blends technical electrical expertise with operational management.
You will have the responsibility to ensure we achieve right first time installations and to meet the SLAs / KPIs for maintenance work on the char.gy network. You will be asked to ensure the network contains quality char.gy charging points that uphold health and safety on site, ensuring any operatives from supplier or customer organisation are adhering to H&S requirements by carrying out Quality of Work, Health and Safety & Behavioural Audits via their team.
The Field Services Manager will:
- Oversee the successful completion of surveys, electrical installations (test and commission), charge point maintenance, fault root cause analysis and site and.or supplier audits (quality and H&S) and may, on occasion, be asked to complete any one of these activities, during periods of growth.
- Support the project management team to ensure the CPs required under the customer contract are delivered safely, on time, at the right cost and to predefined quality standards.
- Manage Suppliers quality and site safety in the field, ensuring assigned suppliers are engaged with clear instructions with clarity of expectations
- Complete site surveys as part of the site selection ensuring that the best asset locations are chosen that meet the criteria set by the Network Planning team and the overall goals of char.gy
- Complete site inspection surveys and when required complete site surveys to gain vital information to enable the delivery of char.gy projects
- Ensure project information is shared as required to all stakeholders. Managing risks and issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor field service technicians and external subcontractors operating across diverse commercial and public charging networks.
- Technical Escalation: Act as the primary point of contact for complex electrical, mechanical, and software-related fault-finding on AC, Rapid DC, and Ultra-Fast HPC units.
- Maintenance Operations: Oversee Routine Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs to maximize charger uptime and grid reliability.
- Performance Tracking: Build and monitor operational KPIs, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and reporting standards.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all field activities rigidly comply with BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and overarching Health & Safety protocols.
- Site Inspections: health and safety on site is critical and the inspections are to ensure that operatives are adhering to H&S requirements including carrying out Quality of Work, Health and Safety & Behavioural Audits.
- Supplier Relationship: maintaining strong relationships with Supplier Project Managers, Project Engineers, Site Managers and installation teams. Creating a supportive environment on site that promotes best practice and continuous improvement of char.gy site work
- Delivery Information Management: with simple organisation and absolute clarity of deliverables
- Travelling: extensively using char.gy vehicles to support site work and maintaining the pace of project delivery. There is an expectation that overnight stays will be required and all reasonable expenses for this will be covered by char.gy.
Person Specification
Essential
- Electrical Certification: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical or Electro-Technical Engineering, along with the BS7671 18th Edition.
- Industry Experience: Proven experience in EV infrastructure, power electronics, or a commercial electro-technical field.
- Inspection and testing 2391-52
- Leadership Skills: Previous experience leading field teams, scheduling, and enforcing site compliance.
- Diagnostics: High-level diagnostic capability using multimeters and diagnostic software for firmware updates and testing.
- Logistics: A valid UK driving license and comfort with regional or national field travel.
- Has a track record of working on projects that include the delivery of civils and electrical installations
- Ability to travel extensively in the UK using char.gy provided vehicles (cars and vans). In time the team will expand further, and regionalisation of the team will reduce the requirement for UK wide travel. Initially as we grow the team cover the length and breadth of the UK with current projects based in Brighton, Devon, London Boroughs, Blackpool and Lincolnshire.
- A willing communicator using appropriate written and verbal communications to a varied audience across all Delivery stakeholders especially supplier field installation and engineering teams. We look for leadership qualities in our field teams.
- A professional with strong IT skills using mobile applications and then using MS Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint to communicate with the team
Desirable
- Full and clean driving licence
- Worked in a programme associated to Small Works contracts
- An understanding of working with Highways and/or Highways Lighting
- SMSTS (site management)
- Experience working with project tools like Site Tracker
