Char.gy is the UK's leading provider of on-street electric vehicle charging infrastructure. We partner with local authorities to design, build and operate public charging networks under long-term concession agreements, giving households without a driveway a reliable way to charge an EV and have achieved a significant market share of recent Levi tender awards. Funded by Zouk Capital, we operate a fast-growing portfolio of LEVI-funded concessions, with over 5,100 charge points live on-street today and more than 58,000 further in the pipeline for deployment. We are a successful scale-up and building the commercial engine to match that growth is one of our clear priorities.

This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer. You will lead a team of Success consultants and be accountable for taking concessions from award stage through contract negotiation and signature on terms acceptable to char.gy. You will subsequently be accountable for the performance of each concession, ensuring that the commercial outcome of every concession contract Char.gy holds ensures that each concession delivers the returns outlined in the investment case, and that contractual commitments are honoured, or changes are negotiated.

The job blends strategic direction with close, hands-on leadership of your team. You set the negotiation strategy and the standards the team works to, coach and direct your consultants and managers as they execute against them, and step in personally when and where necessary. Operational excellence at this level means not doing the work yourself, but making sure it gets done to standard, at scale, through people you have coached to do it well.

Char.gy has grown quickly, and our commercial operating model needs to catch up with the scale of the business. Closing that gap is a strategic priority: you will report progress to the Executive on a regular cadence. You lead the Success team, the group responsible for the commercial health of every concession Char.gy operates. Your mandate will be to ensure smooth running of the team, building the team and embedding the processes that deliver the required business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a high performing team: You lead, coach and develop a team of commercial managers and consultants, each accountable for their own portfolio of concessions. You set clear objectives, run regular reviews, and build a high agency culture where problems are recognised early and actively addressed. You establish documented, repeatable ways of working, so performance does not depend on any one person's memory, including your own.
  • Expedite signing: Once a council has awarded us a contract, your team is accountable for expediting signing, targeting 60 days from award, achieving negotiated terms that support char.gy's considerable investment. Your team sets the negotiation strategy, and you lead personally on the negotiations that matter most, coaching and directing your team through the rest. You pull in legal, commercial and delivery colleagues as needed, keep the executive team briefed on progress and risk, and step in early wherever your team needs support or a contract is at risk of slipping.
  • Keep every concession profitable and compliant: Once a concession is live, your team is accountable for its commercial and financial performance against the return we promised when we won it, and for our compliance with the commitments we made to our customers, or for effectively renegotiating those commitments as appropriate through the contract life. You coach your team to spot underperformance early, and hold them to account for running a clear, time bound improvement plan. You own reporting to our council partners, and the internal business reviews to track the portfolio's progress for the executive and Board.
  • Work across the business: You partner closely with our Asset Management, Legal and Delivery teams, holding shared service commitments to account on both sides. You hold your team to a standard of accurate, current reporting, so leadership always has a reliable view of the portfolio.

Person SpecificationEssential

  • You will have strong experience in commercial contract management, concession management or infrastructure asset management, with direct accountability for financial performance, whether P&L or investment case.
  • You will have negotiated complex, long term contracts with public sector organisations at senior level, and led and developed a commercial team.
  • You are financially literate, comfortable working with investment case models, and confident explaining commercial impact clearly to a leadership team.
  • You have gained experience managing multiple senior stakeholder relationships, at Director or Head of Service level.
  • Above all, you operate with high personal agency: you take ownership of problems before you are asked to, drive them through to resolution, and hold yourself and your team to account for the outcome, not just the activity.

Desirable

  • It would help if you had experience in EV charging, utilities, telecoms or local authority infrastructure, familiarity with LEVI funding frameworks and local authority procurement, Salesforce proficiency, or a degree in business, finance, law or a related field.
