We are recruiting on behalf of a leading specialist eye care provider for a Bank Healthcare Technician based in York. Our client operates a network of dedicated eye hospitals across the UK, delivering world-class ophthalmic care across a range of specialisms including cataract surgery, refractive treatment, glaucoma, and medical retina. Job Purpose

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensure a comprehensive level of care provision to all ophthalmic patients, their relatives, or carers, across clinical and non-clinical care pathways, with an emphasis on quality patient care.

Clinical Duties

β€’ Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care throughout their visit.

β€’ Perform diagnostic testing on patients, including Biometry, OCT, A-Scan, Visual Fields, Pentacam, VA, IOP, and Topography.

β€’ Support patients on surgery days, providing pre- and post-operative care and ensuring effective communication.

β€’ Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity when addressing patients' and their relatives' concerns, ensuring a person-centred approach.

β€’ Provide basic health promotion advice related to ophthalmic surgery.

β€’ Assist in the operating theatre, supporting the entire patient pathway.

β€’ Support the control of cross-infection by adhering to the Uniform Policy, maintaining a clean working environment, and following decontamination and sterilisation procedures in line with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) policy.

Administrative Support

β€’ Organise and maintain patient records using appropriate clinical systems and manual documentation to ensure seamless hospital operations.

β€’ Prepare consulting, examination, and treatment rooms throughout the day, ensuring cleanliness and stock availability.

β€’ Handle patient enquiries effectively, referring to medical practitioners as needed, and provide non-clinical advice regarding appointments and tests.

β€’ Schedule patients and manage diagnostic equipment data, ensuring efficient file transfers and data management.

β€’ Coordinate with suppliers to maintain adequate stock levels for uninterrupted surgical schedules.

Equipment & Safety

β€’ Manage equipment storage and promptly report faults or safety concerns to the relevant manager.

β€’ Ensure the effective operation, maintenance, and safety of all equipment in clinical areas.

β€’ Open and close consulting and diagnostic rooms, ensuring all equipment is clean, operational, and faults are reported promptly.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

β€’ Previous experience in a healthcare environment is essential; ophthalmology experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

β€’ Competent in Basic Life Support.

β€’ Proficient in Microsoft Office and specialist ophthalmic clinical systems.

β€’ Highly organised, with excellent forward planning and attention to detail.

β€’ Strong communication skills, with the ability to handle challenging situations professionally.

β€’ Self-motivated and able to work autonomously while maintaining a collaborative approach.
