We are recruiting on behalf of a leading private specialist eye care provider for an experienced Bank Scrub Nurse / Scrub Practitioner based in Guildford GU2, offering a competitive hourly rate up to £32.00 per hour, depending on experience. This is a flexible bank opportunity for a registered nurse or operating department practitioner with theatre experience who is looking to work within a modern ophthalmology setting. For bank shifts, availability on weekdays is essential, as the clinic runs Monday to Friday.

You will be part of a skilled multi-disciplinary theatre team, supporting the delivery of high-quality surgical care across specialist eye care pathways. The role would suit someone with previous scrub experience who is confident working in a theatre environment and passionate about delivering safe, professional and patient-focused care.

Job Purpose

As part of the operating theatre team, you will provide skilled clinical and technical support during ophthalmic surgical procedures. You will support patients throughout the peri-operative and post-operative pathway, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care at every stage. You will work closely with consultants, surgeons, nurses, ODPs and wider clinical colleagues to help ensure the smooth running of theatre lists and a high-quality patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled scrub support during ophthalmic surgical procedures
  • Prepare theatre, instruments, equipment and consumables for surgical lists
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures
  • Support patients throughout the peri-operative and post-operative pathway
  • Assist with safe patient preparation, handover and discharge processes
  • Ensure surgical documentation and traceability records are completed accurately
  • Follow infection prevention, decontamination and sterilisation procedures
  • Maintain awareness of patient‑specific requirements, including lenses or bespoke surgical items
  • Work closely with consultants, surgeons and clinical colleagues to support safe and efficient theatre activity
  • Report incidents, equipment issues or clinical concerns in line with policy
  • Complete mandatory training and maintain professional standards in line with NMC or HCPC requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration, or Operating Department Practitioner with current HCPC registration
  • Availability on weekdays is essential, as the clinic runs Monday to Friday
  • A minimum of 1 year’s theatre experience
  • Previous scrub experience is essential
  • Experience in general surgery, ophthalmology, day surgery or outpatient theatre settings would be considered
  • Good understanding of infection prevention, theatre safety and clinical governance
  • Awareness of CQC standards and relevant professional guidelines
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, professional approach
  • Good IT and documentation skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Flexibility to work bank shifts when required
  • Ability to travel to other clinical sites if required
