Westrend Maintenance is looking for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative/Commercial Gardener to support our growing commercial and residential maintenance work across London, Surrey, Essex and the surrounding areas. This role would suit someone based around the Watford area who is confident travelling to sites, working independently and taking pride in keeping outdoor spaces clean, tidy and well maintained.
The role involves practical outdoor work, travel between sites, use of power tools and basic reporting, including taking photos of completed work.
What you'll be doing:
- Carrying out commercial grounds maintenance and garden maintenance work
- Grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, weeding and seasonal pruning
- Planting and general soft landscaping tasks
- Spraying and weed control where qualified
- Litter picking and keeping sites clean, tidy and presentable
- Driving between sites across London, Surrey, Essex and surrounding areas
- Taking photos of completed work and sending updates as required
- Using a smartphone for WhatsApp, photos and basic work updates
- Speaking politely and professionally with clients on site when required
- Maintaining tools, equipment and good working standards
What we're looking for:
- Previous commercial grounds maintenance or professional gardening experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Own van preferred, ideally suitable for carrying tools and green waste
- Good experience using grounds maintenance tools such as strimmers, hedge cutters and mowers
- Basic horticultural knowledge
- Reliable, self‑motivated and able to work independently
- Comfortable travelling to different sites, usually within around an hour of Watford
- Good communication skills and a professional approach with clients
- Able to follow processes, complete jobs properly and provide photo updates
- PA1 and PA6 spraying licences would be beneficial but are not essential
What's on offer:
- £15 - £20 per hour, negotiable depending on experience and van arrangement
- PAYE or self‑employed arrangement considered
- Petrol/travel contribution to be discussed

Working hours:
Typical working hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, 5 days per week, although there is flexibility around start and finish times depending on the workload and site requirements. The key expectation is that all work is completed properly, photos are submitted where required, and sites are left to a high standard.
Driving and travel:
This is a mobile role covering London, Surrey, Essex and surrounding areas, with Watford being an ideal base location. Travel between sites is a normal part of the role. Most sites are expected to be within around an hour of Watford, although occasional longer travel may be required depending on the job.
