Chappell Enterprises UK is recruiting on behalf of our client for an Exterior Maintenance Driver to support their busy exterior planting team. This position would suit someone with basic horticultural or grounds maintenance knowledge who can follow an established schedule, use their initiative and provide a professional service at client sites.

Our client provides professional exterior planting and maintenance services across central London. Their team looks after planters, planted beds and roof terraces, ensuring each location remains healthy, tidy and visually appealing.

They are looking for a dependable individual who communicates well, works safely and can be trusted to complete an assigned route to a consistently high standard.

About the Role

You will travel between sites in a company van, carrying out routine maintenance to exterior planting displays across central London.

The role will primarily involve watering, weeding, removing dead or damaged plant material and completing general maintenance tasks. You will be expected to follow agreed processes while also recognising when additional work is required to protect the health and appearance of the planting.

This is a physically active role involving frequent watering, manual handling and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The initial assignment will run for approximately eight weeks. There may be an opportunity to secure ongoing or permanent employment for someone who performs well and proves to be reliable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Watering planters, planted beds and roof terraces
  • Removing weeds, dead leaves and damaged plant material
  • Checking plants for signs of stress, damage or additional watering requirements
  • Keeping exterior planting areas clean, tidy and presentable
  • Following planned routes, maintenance schedules and company procedures
  • Loading, unloading and safely transporting equipment and materials
  • Completing physically demanding tasks, including manual lifting and carrying water
  • Communicating professionally with clients, colleagues and members of the public
  • Reporting any problems, damaged plants or site concerns to the relevant manager
  • Working independently and using initiative to complete the daily workload

What We're Looking For

  • A valid UK Driving Licence with no more than three penalty points
  • Confidence driving a manual van in central London
  • Previous horticulture, gardening, grounds maintenance or exterior maintenance experience is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of watering, weeding and plant care
  • A reliable and punctual approach to work
  • The ability to follow instructions, routes and established processes
  • Good judgement and the initiative to identify and resolve straightforward problems
  • A professional and approachable manner when attending client sites
  • Good communication skills
  • The physical fitness required for manual work, lifting and regular watering duties
  • The ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule
  • Flexibility to work slightly later when required to complete the assigned route

Candidates based in or around Enfield or North London would be particularly well placed, as the company van can be taken home and the role may involve visiting local depots and wholesalers.

Working Hours

The position is Monday to Friday, with no regular weekend work. The preferred start time is 06:00, although a 07:00 start may be considered. A standard working day will be approximately eight hours, with typical finish times between 14:00 and 15:00. There may be opportunities to finish earlier when the scheduled work has been completed, although flexibility will be required on busier days.
