Chappell Enterprises UK is recruiting on behalf of an established and growing landscape construction company that delivers high-end residential garden projects across Surrey, Berkshire and the surrounding areas. The company is now developing its landscape maintenance service, providing ongoing care for gardens it has designed and constructed while also securing new maintenance clients and contracts.

This is an excellent opportunity to join at an early stage, work closely with the business owner and help develop the maintenance operation into a successful division in its own right.

About the Role

As Landscape Maintenance Technician, you will initially take responsibility for maintaining a portfolio of high-quality residential gardens completed by the company. You will ensure each garden continues to look its best, providing a professional and knowledgeable maintenance service to clients while identifying improvements and additional work where appropriate. Alongside the practical maintenance work, you will work closely with the owner to develop this area of the business. As the client portfolio grows, there will be an opportunity to help recruit and manage additional staff, organise maintenance schedules, price new work and contribute towards contracts and tenders. For the right person, this position offers genuine long-term progression towards running the landscape maintenance division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain high-end residential gardens to an excellent standard
  • Carry out lawn care, mowing, edging and seasonal maintenance
  • Undertake pruning, hedge cutting and shrub maintenance
  • Maintain planting schemes, borders and landscaped areas
  • Complete weeding, deadheading, mulching and general garden care
  • Monitor plant health and identify pests, diseases or nutritional issues
  • Carry out seasonal planting and garden improvement work
  • Use and maintain horticultural tools, machinery and equipment safely
  • Ensure gardens remain tidy, healthy and professionally presented
  • Build positive and professional relationships with clients
  • Identify additional maintenance or improvement work
  • Help develop efficient maintenance schedules and working procedures
  • Support the growth of the maintenance client portfolio
  • Assist with pricing, quotations, contracts and tenders as the division develops
  • Help recruit, train and supervise maintenance operatives in the future

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in professional garden or landscape maintenance
  • Strong practical horticultural knowledge
  • Good plant identification and plant care skills
  • Experience maintaining high-quality residential gardens
  • Confidence using a range of horticultural machinery and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule
  • A reliable, organised and professional approach
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in presentation
  • Good communication and client-facing skills
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in developing a growing business
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Experience supervising staff, preparing quotations or managing maintenance contracts would be advantageous, but it is not essential. The employer is equally interested in an ambitious and capable maintenance professional who is ready to develop these skills.

The Progression Opportunity

This is not intended to remain a standard maintenance position. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside the owner to develop the maintenance service into a standalone and profitable division. As the business grows, this could include:

  • Building and managing maintenance teams
  • Developing recurring maintenance contracts
  • Organising staff, vehicles and equipment
  • Pricing new work and preparing quotations
  • Contributing to tenders and larger commercial opportunities
  • Managing client relationships and service delivery
  • Taking operational responsibility for the maintenance division

The speed of progression will depend on performance, capability and the growth of the client portfolio.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary of up to £35,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • 28 days' holiday including bank holidays
  • Company pension
  • Long-term permanent position
  • High-quality residential client portfolio
  • Opportunity to work directly with the business owner
  • Genuine route into a supervisory or management position
  • Potential to build and run a landscape maintenance division
  • Supportive environment within a growing landscaping company

This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable and dependable landscape maintenance professional who wants to combine hands-on horticulture with genuine commercial and career progression.
