Chapman Tate Associates are working with an innovative and growing Software House that is looking for a Research Software Engineer to join their team. The key requirement for this role is strong Python development experience. If you’re a confident Python developer who enjoys working on complex technical challenges, this could be an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering and cutting-edge research. Experience with Linux and High-Performance Computing (HPC) would be highly desirable, but isn't essential.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing and supporting software primarily using Python
  • Working within Linux-based environments
  • Supporting and optimising workloads on HPC platforms
  • Working directly with researchers to understand technical requirements
  • Providing coding support, technical guidance and troubleshooting
  • Delivering technical training and coaching
  • Creating technical documentation and development best practices
  • Collaborating with customers and internal technical teams
  • Keeping up to date with developments across Python, RSE, Linux and HPC

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Strong commercial Python development experience
  • Good software engineering fundamentals
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A genuine interest in research computing and technical problem solving

Desirable:

  • Linux experience
  • HPC experience
  • Experience with HPC clusters or job schedulers
  • C/C++, Fortran or other research computing languages
  • Experience within academic, scientific or research environments
  • Cloud or large-scale computing experience
