Chapman Tate Associates are working with an innovative and growing Software House that is looking for a Research Software Engineer to join their team. The key requirement for this role is strong Python development experience. If youβre a confident Python developer who enjoys working on complex technical challenges, this could be an excellent opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering and cutting-edge research. Experience with Linux and High-Performance Computing (HPC) would be highly desirable, but isn't essential.
What will you be doing?
- Developing and supporting software primarily using Python
- Working within Linux-based environments
- Supporting and optimising workloads on HPC platforms
- Working directly with researchers to understand technical requirements
- Providing coding support, technical guidance and troubleshooting
- Delivering technical training and coaching
- Creating technical documentation and development best practices
- Collaborating with customers and internal technical teams
- Keeping up to date with developments across Python, RSE, Linux and HPC
What are we looking for?
Essential:
- Strong commercial Python development experience
- Good software engineering fundamentals
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- A genuine interest in research computing and technical problem solving
Desirable:
- Linux experience
- HPC experience
- Experience with HPC clusters or job schedulers
- C/C++, Fortran or other research computing languages
- Experience within academic, scientific or research environments
- Cloud or large-scale computing experience
