Chapman Recruitment are looking for an experienced Mechanical Technical Manager in London to lead the mechanical construction operations across a portfolio of projects. This senior role carries full responsibility for operational delivery, commercial performance, and regional growth within the mechanical division. You will oversee multiple live projects, support business development, and ensure all mechanical works are delivered safely, to programme, and in line with commercial and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities of Mechanical Technical Manager:
- Manage and control the day-to-day delivery of mechanical construction projects, ensuring they achieve agreed margins, budgets, and KPIs.
- Provide strong leadership to project managers, engineers, and site teams across the region.
- Work closely with the Operations Director and senior leadership team to set regional objectives, budgets, and delivery plans.
- Ensure high standards of client satisfaction, promoting repeat business and long-term relationships.
- Review and approve mechanical estimates and tenders to ensure competitiveness while protecting profitability.
- Monitor contracts monthly against forecasts and cost plans, updating financial projections and reporting performance.
- Manage contract administration including: Identification and valuation of variations, ensuring clients are notified of additional costs, supporting resolution of claims and final accounts, ensuring contractual notices are issued in line with contract conditions.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to winning new mechanical construction contracts.
- Monitor market and competitor activity within the mechanical and construction sector.
- Support and develop teams through training, mentoring, and performance management.
- Attend management, commercial, and project review meetings to monitor progress and future workload.
- Contribute to wider business strategy, diversification, and sustainable growth of the mechanical division.
Attributes needed for Mechanical Technical Manager:
- Proven experience in a senior mechanical management role within construction or building services.
- Strong background in mechanical packages (HVAC, pipework, plant rooms, building services).
- Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge (variations, cost control, final accounts).
