DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Pictures team is responsible for the commissioning, sourcing, editing, production and distribution of images for use across internal and external platforms to promote

Channel 4, including All 4, EPGs, the external media, and wider corporate use.

The Pictures team reports into the Press & Publicity department, which is responsible for generating and shaping earned press and media coverage of Channel 4’s

programmes, content, services and talent but also works closely with other internal departments which include All4, Marketing, Social & Corporate.

JOB PURPOSE

The Picture Assistant is responsible for sourcing all additional images that are not currently commissioned by the Picture Commissioners. These are needed to service the range of images needed for both internal and external uses, All4 and third party platforms and includes both acquisitions and non-priority shows).

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Working as part of the new Pictures team this role needs to liaise with UK production companies, US studios, Walter Presents and all other acquisition partners to acquire high-quality, eye-grabbing imagery that can be used across all Channel 4 platforms, internal needs and external press.
  • Work with the Asset Manager, Picture Commissioners, Picture Editors and Picture Operations Manager to ensure the right images are sourced to promote Channel 4’s content and Programmes.
  • Deliver assets to the various platforms and Digital Asset Management systems, to include metadata.
  • Manage the upkeep of the Channel 4 Press Images website.
  • Respond and manage the distribution of images to internal and external requests, when solutions can not be found via the Press website/Internal Pictures Team DAM system.
  • Assist Picture Commissioners with all aspects of photography production when required
  • Collaborate with Picture Commissioners to commission photography for lower priority shows when required
  • Deliver imagery that supports the priorities set out by Pictures Operation Manager in conjunction with Press, All 4, Marketing, Social and Corporate.
  • Realise the Channel 4, Channel 4 Streaming, E4 & More 4 tone-of-voice through sophisticated image selection and adhere to platform editorial guidelines as agreed with All 4 Editorial team
  • Working with the Pictures Operation Manager and the wider Pictures and All 4 team. Advise external and internal clients on the supply of picture assets for
  • use across the Channel with a view to achieving on-going improvements in the quality of supplied images.
  • Play an active role in building a collaborative and generous culture.
  • Enshrine the 360 Diversity Charter in work practices.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Proven experience in obtaining high-quality images from a variety of sources and picture editing.
  • Proven experience working within a digital/future media environment.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop/Lightroom.
  • Knowledge of Digital Asset Management Systems.

Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making

  • Working to tight deadlines.
  • Can be flexible and re-prioritise when requirements change.

Managing Resources

  • Ability to plan ahead, make good decisions, analyse different possibilities, and effectively accomplish a wide variety of tasks.
  • Anticipates the possibility that amendments have to be made and plan accordingly.
  • Adapts and integrates new information into a nearly completed project.

Relationship Management

  • Strong communication skills to work closely with and advise production companies, Pictures Team, All 4 Team, Press & Publicity.

Complexity/Problem Solving

  • Ability to problem solve, handle competing priorities, be able to multi-task and have the ability to effectively process and re-organise planning structures to ensure a successful conclusion.

Business Impact/Strategic Perspective
