The People Team sits at the heart of Channel 4's success, ensuring we attract, support, and retain the very best talent. We partner closely with the business across our three core areas—Creative, Commercial, and Operations—to enable a high-performing, inclusive, and forward-thinking workplace.
As we expand our footprint with the opening of our Manchester office, we are growing our People Team presence in the Nations and Regions to reflect the diversity and reach of our audiences and workforce. Our team is made up of Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development (L&D), People Operations, and People Partners. We work collaboratively across all functions to deliver a people strategy that underpins Channel 4's Fast Forward strategy—focusing on innovation, development, and engagement.
The People Operations & Experience Team are specialists in Operations, Reward, Data, Employee Engagement and People Systems, supporting the wider People Team to ensure that our people are developed and engaged to enable the channel to deliver on its remit and produce award-winning content.
Job Purpose
You will support the People Team by providing a professional and effective service covering the entire employee cycle from a People Operations perspective. Providing first line support to our employees and line managers. Maintenance of our HR system (called 4People) and employee data whilst ensuring our data is accurate for our managers, leaders, employees and outsourced suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- First point of contact for employees and managers providing query resolution and/or appropriate direction to achieve the employee outcome and drive a positive employee experience.
- Ensure that all People data is accurate and up to date which includes auditing our data to ensure it is up to date and correct, setting up new joiners, updating leaver details and assisting line managers with managing employee changes through the HR system.
- Produce reports, keeping an eye on our data accuracy and ensuring that we are up to date with key dates such as Fixed Term Contract expiry dates, probation end dates, insights into our operational data, maternity, paternity, shared parental leave and acting up dates.
- Supporting the People Team on a variety of strategic ad-hoc projects to ensure operational excellence and effectiveness is upheld whilst keeping up to date with what our stakeholders require.
- Work with payroll, freelancer and benefit providers to champion good working practices ensuring data is processed in a timely and accurate manner and communicated back to key stakeholders whilst upholding attention to detail during cyclical freelancer onboarding and salary processes through our systems.
- Work across the people team supporting the specialists and People Business partners in managing administrative processes for cyclical employee activities along with People related projects working with key internal and external stakeholders. This includes and is not limited to induction, training and first stages of resolving employee concerns, annual pay review and annual variable bonus.
- Collaborating with the team to prepare and execute a variety of different creative events and talks for our internal initiatives enhancing employee knowledge. Including virtual and in-person roadshows, FAQ sessions with our managers and F2F sessions with our employee population.
- Champion diversity and inclusion in all aspects of People activity, upholding the Employee Experience message whilst maintaining C4's diversity remit.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Good working knowledge of HR Processes and administration.
- Proven experience of working as an HR Assistant / Administrator.
- Previous in practice experience.
- Experience of managing a busy and varied workload where you are required to make judgements on prioritisation.
- Experience of managing data, producing reports or providing analysis - this does not need to be related to HR.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability/confidence to communicate at all levels.
- Strong team ethic with the ability to work independently.
- Calm under pressure and provide a sense of stability to stakeholders and customers.
- Comfortable with ambiguity/change adapting well to changing conditions and new ways of thinking.
- Understands the confidential nature of the work and can adhere to Channel 4's information security and GDPR requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- Advanced skills and experience in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Sage People/People Systems experience.
- CIPD or HR Qualification.

Hybrid working From September 2023, C4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern, equating to three office days per week.
