Overview
In this role you will lead film acquisitions and support scripted pre-buys to deliver Channel 4’s acquired content strategy. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure deals, stock planning and delivery align with portfolio, transmission and streaming needs. You will manage relationships with studios and suppliers, evaluate market opportunities and contribute to slate-level planning. This is an opportunity to shape high-value content strategies in a fast-moving, technology-enabled landscape. You will play a key part in driving content strategy that supports audience needs and Channel 4’s mission.
Responsibilities
- Lead film acquisitions activity: select, negotiate and purchase feature films; manage stock and season planning; shape future film deals and supply across the portfolio
- Support scripted pre-buy strategy: identify priority opportunities aligned with portfolio, channel and streaming needs
- Own day-to-day engagement with named studios and suppliers and manage negotiations within agreed parameters
- Represent film and scripted pre-buy priorities in slate-level planning and broader portfolio discussions with market insight, stock analysis and ROI considerations
- Track submissions and materials, maintaining a clear view of opportunities and supporting pitches for new acquisitions
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth progression from deal to delivery for transmission and streaming
- Line manage and develop the Acquisitions Manager, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture and deputise for Head of Acquisitions as required
Key requirements
- Minimum of five years’ experience negotiating studio/high-value deals in acquisitions/distribution or related content rights environment
- Established relationships with key suppliers, distributors, studios and producers globally
- Proven track record negotiating linear, on-demand, series and feature film deals
- Strong understanding of Channel 4’s content strategy, audience needs and acquisitions’ role in the portfolio
- Solid grasp of transmission, streaming and rights landscape, including new technologies, partners and platforms
- Excellent understanding of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and its application to acquired content
- Excellent time-management and prioritisation skills, with ability to manage multiple negotiations and projects
