The Commercial Marketing Leader is a pivotal leadership role within the Channel 4 Sales organisation. This role leads the Commercial Marketing function within Channel 4 Sales, shaping how Channel 4 Sales shows up in market, crafting the narrative, tools and experiences that inspire clients, agencies and industry partners. Sitting at the intersection of creativity, marketing strategy and commercial ambition, the role leads the development of a compelling sales story, elevates the presence of Channel 4 Sales across the ad industry and ensures teams are equipped with standout marketing and communication assets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sales Narrative and Positioning
- Own the overarching Channel 4 Sales narrative, articulating our distinctiveness, audiences, the power of Channel 4 content and breadth of advertising ecosystem.
- Shape and refine strategic messaging with Sales Leadership, ensuring alignment with business priorities and market dynamics.
- Champion consistent, compelling communication across all client and industry touchpoints.
- Content, Collateral and Story Telling
- Leads the development of best-in-class sales collateral including strategic decks, one-pagers, case studies and showreels and thought leadership content.
- Partner with Insights, Commercial Performance, Corporate Comms, Marketing and Design to ensure all materials are elevated, accurate and commercially sharp.
- Set the editorial direction, tone and content priorities for a premium, insight-rich monthly newsletter for external audiences.
- Digital Channels and Social Presence
- Own, manage and evolve the Channel 4 Sales website, ensuring design, US and content reflect our creativity, innovation and commercial proposition.
- Oversee (Commercial Marketing) Design and external partners to deliver site improvements, refreshed layouts and timely content updates.
- Lead the Channel 4 Sales social media strategy across LinkedIn and Instagram showcasing thought leadership, creativity, culture and commercial success.
- Manage and mentor the team member responsible for day-to-day social content creation and posting, collaborating closely with Corporate Communications to ensure alignment of all external messaging.
- Events, Industry Relationships and Awards
- Elevates Channel 4 Sales presence at key industry events, festivals and awards in partnership with the centralised Events & Engagement team and Corporate Comms.
- Set the annual commercial events strategy, identifying key moments that support marketing objectives, leading clear briefs for the central events team.
- Build and strengthen relationships with ad industry bodies, networks and organisations.
- Lead the development of the Commercial Awards strategy in close collaboration with Sales Leadership.
- Leadership, Operations and Team Management
- Lead and mentor a high performing commercial marketing team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration and growth.
- Oversee annual strategy, budget management, prioritisation and workflows to deliver impactful work efficiently and to an exceptional standard.
- Build strong, productive relationships across Sales, Marketing, 4Creative, Corporate Communications, Press and Commissioning and other internal partners.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Significant senior level experience in commercial marketing, media sales organisations or new business/business development.
- Deep understanding of the UK ad market, agency landscape and TV/AV ecosystem.
- Proven ability to craft strategic narratives and translate insight into high impact marketing tools and story-led content.
- Ability to lead strategic decisions that shape the reputation of Channel 4 Sales across the industry.
- Strong editorial judgement and the ability to deliver engaging content across multiple channels.
- Proven success launching major industry initiatives involving multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Expert budget ownership with a track record of managing significant investment with rigour and transparency.
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects forward at pace, make informed decisions and secure stakeholder alignment.
- Experienced people leader with a track record of developing talent and managing day-to-day team performance.
- Strong industry relationships; PR experience a plus.
- Comfortable working at pace in a fast moving, ever-changing environment.
