Audience Insight are trusted thought-leaders bringing expert strategy, policy, market & audience insight – challenging and advising the business to drive delivery of Channel 4’s strategy and remit. The purpose of the new centralised Audience Insights (Subfunction) is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4’s creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.

Within the new centralised operating Insights model (where all audience and market insight in C4 is centralised into the Audience Insight team), each C-Suite Leader (CEO, Chief Content Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and the Exec Committee as a body) and their Senior Leaders have a dedicated Insight Business Partner (BP) who prioritizes and agrees their Insight requirements, aligned to the strategic C4 pillars. BP Analysts directly source available analysis and where additional, bespoke research or specialised analysis is required, the BP will commission this from the relevant Specialist Lead, managing jointly the presentation back of recommendations to the C-Suite Leader.

JOB PURPOSE

The Data Enablement Developer plays a key role in equipping colleagues across Audience Insight with the governed data, models and tools they need to generate high‑quality analysis and self‑serve reporting. The role ensures teams can confidently and responsibly leverage Channel 4’s data through a reliable analytical toolkit and clear, accessible guidance. Working across Insight, Technology and wider business teams, the role supports the delivery of cross‑functional workstreams that advance the data and insight strategy, while contributing to the development and adoption of Channel 4’s shared data community, tooling and standards.

A core part of the role is contributing to the Tools & Methods portfolio and supporting user education, ensuring analysts, leaders and functional specialists can use self‑serve tools effectively and consistently. The post holder will drive the improvement, implementation and integration of data and analytics across teams, embedding best practice, governance discipline and a unified approach to reporting and data use.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain the suite of reporting and analysis Tools & Methods used across Insight, including dashboards, apps, governed models, KPI structures and supporting utilities.
  • Review new tools, technologies and data sources with Reporting and Analytics teams, contributing to business cases and strengthening analytical capability.
  • Creating and managing robust technical documentation, providing clear end to end process, change and support logs.
  • Support the design and evolution of future data models, contributing to single source of truth and working with Technology through PoC → Design → Development → Test → Production.
  • Deliver clear, effective training and guidance to ensure Insight teams adopt and use the toolkit with confidence and consistency.
  • Actively contribute to Channel 4’s data communities, promoting shared practices, collaboration and stronger cross functional alignment.
  • Apply modern BI and engineering practices to improve how data is modelled, visualised and communicated.
  • Participate in governance activities including definitions, data dictionary updates, change logs, usage audits and deprecation decisions.
  • Run enablement sessions (how to guides, demos, office hours) to embed self serve behaviours and raise data literacy.
  • Partner with Technology and Data Engineering to ensure data readiness, reliable refresh pipelines and smooth promotion from Development to Test and Production.

  • Reporting & Data Enablement Lead, 4 Business Partners & their Analyst teams
  • Specialist Analytical & Reporting Teams (i.e. all teams working with behavioural data)
  • Wider teams within Channel 4 including but not limited to Social, Streaming, Content, Marketing, Finance, People
  • Technology Teams (Heads of level and below)

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience (min 3 years) in managing a large volume of reports and processes, confident obtaining, querying, and efficiently modelling large datasets (SQL, Azure or equivalent) for visualisation and capable of manipulating and transforming these datasets to ingest into a model (e.g. through Alteryx, SQL or equivalent).
  • Creating the data visualisation model architecture to house the data ensuring this is appropriately built to enhance performance.
  • Visualisation capabilities in Power BI or similar.
  • General knowledge / background in data and analytical processes.
  • Strong communication & presentation skills with the ability to present complex and detailed recommendations clearly and succinctly to stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent ability to deal with data complexity and proven track record of working with technology data teams to drive a clear route to data integrity & foundation.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities, manage timescales and delivery across the team often under pressure.
  • Autonomy and freedom to operate within agreed framework aligned to strategic objectives and prioritised activity roadmap.
  • Develops insightful points of view through detailed analysis and is comfortable turning ambiguity into action / solutions.

DESIRABLE:

  • Sector experience in a media or broadcast company including exposure to product & viewer data (ideally social /web based).
