The Strategy, Policy & Insight (Function) are trusted thought-leaders bringing expert strategy, policy, market & audience insight – challenging and advising the business to drive delivery of Channel 4's strategy and remit.
The new centralised Audience Insights (Subfunction) purpose is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4's creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.
Within the new centralised operating model, Specialists across Analytics, Research, Reporting and Data Enablement have come together from teams across the business to become centres of excellence in their respective disciplines. Working alongside Business Partners, these teams will work to translate data into actionable insights, managing jointly the presentation back of recommendations to the C-Suite or Senior Leader.
Working under the direction of the Senior Insight Manager, Social & Product, this role manages a small team of (of around 3-5) Insight Analysts to source and prepare high-value insight to support decisions across Product, Channel 4+, and Distribution, generating insight for C-Suite and Senior Leader stakeholders to enable them to make profitable business decisions for Channel 4.
The role and their team will be focussed on Product, Subscriber and Distribution data. While specialists in their analytical area of expertise, they will be expected to understand all areas of the business to ensure any work done can have cross-pillar impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the subject matter expert in Product, Distribution, and Channel 4+ analysis, bringing your exceptional knowledge of these areas to develop a Product analytics roadmap that aligns with the deliverables and priorities agreed with the Business Partner team.
- Manage and develop the team, coaching for excellence and growing the team skills & capabilities.
- Undertake hands-on analysis of our digital products, acting as the voice of the user to identify pain points and influence our Product strategy, calling out failure of C4 to meet the required growth targets and bringing insight which drive Senior Leader decisions to unblock barriers.
- Be an expert in the Digital Product data we collect, and advise on the data collection requirements for new product features as they come onto our roadmap, building measurement frameworks and tracking audits to ensure we make the most of our product data.
- Ensure data and insights are accurate and reliable across all outputs in both your own work and your team’s work.
- Work closely with Experimentation, User Research and the insight business partnership team to ensure mixed methods are used where possible to generate rich insight with a cohesive narrative from a variety of sources.
- Recommend to the Senior Insight Manager, the innovation of new approaches to insight based on new to market and industry perspectives, data sets, analysis methods or modelling tools.
- Contributing ideas, options & solutions to the Insight leadership team to evolve the insight function’s impact, value & capability.
- Together with the Business Partner & Reporting Team, the role is responsible for driving the self-service capability (building the proof of concept for the Reporting team to automate for wider C4 self-serve access) to reduce repetitive analysis, cost and improve stakeholder real-time access.

- The role will manage a team of Insight Analysts. No direct financial accountability.
- Close collaboration with a range of business stakeholders, including; Product Leadership Team, Product Managers, Growth Team and Distribution & Partnerships
Essential Skills and Experience
- Management: Experience in managing and developing a team of analysts, with varying skillsets and needs
- Background in Product or Subscriber analytics preferred, with experience in the Streaming, Broadcasting or Media a plus
- Technical skills: Extensive experience using Abobe Analytics (or another Digital Analytics tool); extensive experience of using SQL; Python/R or other statistical programming language experience preferred
- Storytelling: Demonstrable history of translating complex data sets into clear and actionable narratives, communicating opportunities and challenges to stakeholders
- Collaboration: Ability to proactively build a collaborative environment within the Insight function and across the business to drive the best possible outcome
- Ability to engage effectively with Insight BPs when presenting back on findings – specifically personal confidence, capability to challenge, debate, advise and recommend solutions
- Prioritisation: Skilled at prioritising and managing multiple project schedules and deadlines that run simultaneously for self and team

Hybrid Working
From September 2023 employees will be working minimum 3 days per week in their office location. The other 2 days should be working from home.
