DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
4Studio is the driving force behind C4’s digital acceleration strategy, with the objective to create, adapt and distribute brilliant content across our social and digital channels, building engaged audiences that deliver digital views at scale.
JOB PURPOSE
The Branded Edit Lead is a key role in our newly formed branded content division. The role requires a passion and strong knowledge of what works across the content spectrum digitally and on all social media platforms. They should be an expert in editing technology and Adobe CC. They should have experience of creating content to client briefs and working with brands and agencies at every level. They should be detail obsessed and creatively driven.
You’ll be primarily focused in handling our Branded Entertainment digital video edits and deliveries. You’ll liaise and build relationships with agencies, sales teams, digital commissioners, internal teams and production companies from all across the UK who create our branded series. You’ll be responsible for delivering final content to make sure our Channel 4 brand is adhered to and social platform standards are met. You will also have the opportunity to shooting roles when projects allow.
This role is based in the National HQ in Leeds or our Bristol or Glasgow offices and will be required to liaise with the broader team on any given project including the Commissioning Team, Channel Teams, Production teams and 4Studio Social Media Managers, as well as with other C4 departments, to ensure as coherent an approach as possible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- You’ll be an expert at editing social media content for a range of platforms and for a range of clients and brands. Adobe suite will be second nature to you.
- You should have a strong and detailed eye for quality assurance.
- You’ll be at home editing content, for a variety of audiences, and know how to make content engaging from the first frame. A strong awareness of best practices across multiple platforms is essential.
- You’ll also have experience editing content to meet Commercial briefs and client demands, and helping teams film & edit fresh, unique approaches to digital and social-first branded content.
- You’ll be intensely interested in evolving creative and technical processes and software, to ensure our video production is as innovative and efficient as possible.
- Yes it’s a cliché, but you’re a ‘social native’ and you know the difference between a hit and a miss – your editing magic might even be able to turn a miss into a hit.
- We want to be seen as a cutting-edge brand. You must be abreast of developments in the world of social media and what the implications might be for us.
- You can follow briefs very closely, but also take a loose brief and return work of an excellent standard.
- You should be able to take on original content production in a shooting, edit or technical capacity when required.
- You should be familiar with the Ofcom code and broadcast regulations so that you don’t waste your time on great ideas that turn out to be illegal.
- You will need to be tonally versatile as your team will be making content for a range of social accounts and clients.
- You will be required to manage the – sometimes competing – demands of key stakeholders. Cool under pressure and excellent powers of persuasion are required.
- You may be responsible for managing other edit roles within the team.
- You will work closely with the QC team, ensuring they are able to assist you effectively when needed.
- You will need to have a good working relationship with Legal & Compliance.
- You won’t be responsible for reporting, but you should still be interested in results and be able to find out what’s done well and what hasn’t – this information should inform your future work.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- You’ll be confident around commissioners and production company teams, and be able to offer advice, training and insight into the production and delivery of our Branded content.
- Experience of creating content to client briefs and working with brands and agencies at every level, being their first port of call and lead contact if required.
- You should have experience in a client-facing role, working with external teams to lead on assisting with specifications to meet a creative brief.
- You should be a good trouble shooter for all things post-production. You’ll have a strong understanding of editing workflows, techniques and technical specifications.
- You’ll have a consistently sharp eye for video and sound QC and be able to spot errors or brand discrepancies and advise on solutions under pressure with fast turnarounds.
- You need a strong understanding of the Adobe CC Suite – including file formats, codecs, media ingesting and digital distribution products.
- Must have an understanding of post-production processes including colour-correcting edits, exporting and delivering assets to a variety of technical specifications.
- Must have a good knowledge of all areas of online marketing and content creation, with specific reference to social video content.
- Must be a confident shooter – including set up, lighting and file management.
- Must be comfortable leading meetings to external teams and partners.
- Must be highly organised and keep meticulous files.
- You must have experience managing/leading a team in a video production capacity.
- Must be willing to travel between your base office, Leeds and potentially other Channel 4 offices to assist external teams.
Hybrid Policy:
From September 2023 employees will be working minimum 3 days per week in their office location. The other 2 days should be working from home. This is to create more time for collaboration, creativity, learning and feedback. We also have a working from another location policy for up to 10 days. This pattern is subject to future changes which would be communicated in advance to provide employees with adequate notice of any change. Salary Basic salary starting at £42,875 dependant on experience.
