About the role:

People affected by Mental Health concerns can become involved in issues that lead to them being sentenced to a Community Payback Order (CPO). Their mental health concerns can affect their ability to complete the CPO and heighten the risk of them having a custodial sentence. Working in the Justice Social Work Mental Health Support Project, the Social Justice Outreach Worker will support people to manage their mental health concerns which may be linked to their housing needs, finances, skills development, wellbeing, friends, family and carer support needs. This will help them be in a better overall safe and stable position to be able to engage with and complete their CPO and help them navigate a path away from a custodial sentence.

The Social Justice Outreach worker will be registered with SSSC and work within Change Mental Health Care Inspectorate registered service. They will have a lead role in developing the Mental Health Support Project within Justice Social Work which will include:

  • Partnership work with people referred and Justice Social Work teams to ensure people are in a safe and secure position to engage with and complete CPO
  • Support for people referred, working with Locality Manager and Justice Social Work Case Manager to compile and review development plans ensuring outcomes are being achieved.
  • Ensuring that careful and ongoing review systems are in place and maintained in collaboration with the Justice Social Work Case Manager.
  • Ensuring that relevant partnership policies and procedures are followed
  • Establishing supportive relationships with people referred, encouraging individual responsibility and decision making to maximise choice, control and self-management.
  • Collating information and prepare agency reports as required.
  • Ensuring feedback and evaluation reports are completed to time.
