The Opportunity

We are supporting a growing regulated financial services firm with the appointment of an Operational Resilience Manager. The position sits across regulatory delivery, business continuity, technology resilience and operational risk.

A key early priority will be to establish a clear view of the firm’s position against DORA, supporting technical requirements and UK operational resilience expectations. From there, you will shape a practical programme of improvement with clear priorities, ownership and measurable outcomes. The remit also includes strengthening continuity arrangements across the business. You will improve business impact analysis, refresh recovery plans, support incident response and ensure resilience activity becomes part of everyday operational management.

This role needs someone who can move comfortably between regulation, risk and delivery. You will provide credible challenge, work closely with operational and technical teams then help turn identified weaknesses into lasting improvements.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Review resilience arrangements against DORA, supporting standards and relevant FCA expectations
  • Build a risk based improvement plan covering regulatory, operational and technology weaknesses
  • Turn complex requirements into clear actions, controls and accountable business ownership
  • Develop the firm’s business continuity approach and establish consistent review arrangements
  • Lead business impact analysis and support teams in producing clear, usable recovery plans
  • Maintain oversight of important services, disruption tolerances and the resources that support them
  • Improve incident response, escalation, crisis coordination and lessons learned activity
  • Support the assessment and reporting of material technology incidents in line with DORA
  • Plan and facilitate continuity, crisis and operational resilience exercises
  • Coordinate resilience testing across critical technology services and key dependencies
  • Evaluate the resilience of important suppliers and identify concentration or dependency risks
  • Maintain proportionate regulatory evidence, third party records and resilience management information
  • Provide concise risk and progress reporting to senior leaders and governance forums
  • Partner with teams across operations, technology, security, risk, compliance, procurement and supplier management

What We Are Looking For

You will bring relevant experience from operational resilience, business continuity, operational risk, technology risk or regulatory change. A background within financial services, fintech, investments, banking or insurance would be particularly useful.

Your experience is likely to include:

  • A practical understanding of DORA and the standards that support it
  • Delivery experience from a DORA, resilience or regulatory improvement programme
  • A sound understanding of UK operational resilience expectations
  • The ability to convert regulation into workable controls, processes and delivery plans
  • Hands on experience of business impact analysis and continuity planning
  • Knowledge of technology risk, operational incidents and crisis response
  • Experience planning or facilitating resilience tests and scenario exercises
  • An understanding of supplier resilience and third-party technology risk
  • The ability to explain technical or regulatory issues clearly to different audiences
  • Strong judgement, personal ownership and the confidence to work independently

Additional Experience That Would Be Useful

  • Experience gained within an investment platform, wealth business or technology led financial firm
  • Previous work within a business subject to DORA requirements
  • Knowledge of DORA incident reporting and third-party information requirements
  • Experience assessing supplier contracts, recovery arrangements and resilience controls
  • Familiarity with ISO 22301 or a recognised continuity qualification

How You Will Work

The firm is looking for someone balanced, credible and delivery focused. You will know when an issue needs firm intervention, while still considering customer impact, business practicality and the overall level of risk.

You should be comfortable asking difficult questions, working through incomplete information and taking responsibility for progress. The best solutions will often involve strengthening controls or reducing exposure rather than automatically stopping an activity or ending a supplier relationship.
