We are working with a well‑established and growing professional services firm that is looking to appoint an Assistant Manager into its Independent Examinations team, which sits within a wider External Audit function. This is a newly created role, offering the successful candidate a genuine opportunity to help shape the future of a growing specialist team while gaining exposure to a broad and varied charity client base.

The Opportunity

You will manage a portfolio of charity clients, ranging from smaller organisations preparing receipts and payments accounts to larger charities requiring full accruals accounts. The role offers end‑to‑end responsibility for assignments, from planning through to completion, alongside regular client interaction and leadership responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, responsibility, and meaningful work, and who is keen to progress within a supportive and ambitious firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Delivery
  • Managing a portfolio of charity and not‑for‑profit clients
  • Planning, reviewing, and completing independent examination assignments
  • Providing technical guidance and support to clients
  • Attending client meetings and acting as a key point of contact
  • Managing fees, WIP, and assignment timelines
  • Supervising, reviewing, and supporting junior team members
  • Coaching and contributing to training and development
  • Participating in the annual appraisal process

  • Supporting the ongoing development of the department
  • Assisting with tender documents and business development activity
  • Contributing to departmental administration and ad‑hoc projects

About You:

  • Strong accounts preparation experience with a solid technical grounding
  • Confident communicator with experience dealing directly with clients
  • Ability to supervise and coach junior staff
  • Professionally qualified or qualified by experience
  • Experience within the charity or not‑for‑profit sector
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks
  • Exposure to business development activity
