My client is seeking a highly commercial and entrepreneurial Group Business Development Director to lead growth for a well-established, large-scale business with ambitious expansion plans. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to a proven business winner from an agency environment or a large venue or portfolio collection. You will bring a strong industry reputation, an extensive network and a track record of converting opportunities into long-term, high-value revenue.
Sitting within the SEM team, this role offers a rare opportunity to help shape and potentially build a small in-house agency function, leveraging the business's existing infrastructure, reputation and scale.
Key Responsibilities- Identify, target and secure new business across corporate, agency and international markets
- Leverage a well-established network of DMCs, agents, direct corporates and strategic partners
- Proactively generate, manage and convert leads into confirmed revenue
- Lead tender submissions and pitches for venues and new events business
- Negotiate commercial terms and pricing to maximise profitability and long-term value
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with key decision makers
- Act as a senior brand ambassador at industry events, networking functions and client meetings
- Play a key role in establishing and shaping a small in-house agency offering
- Work closely with SEM colleagues to ensure seamless delivery and client satisfaction
- Provide leadership and mentorship as the function grows
- Proven experience at Business Development Director or Senior Business Development Manager level
- Background within an agency environment or a large venue group or portfolio collection
- Demonstrable success winning, converting and growing high-value business
- Strong experience leading tenders, pitches and contract negotiations
- Exceptionally well-networked with an active and credible industry contact base
- Commercially astute with a strategic yet hands-on approach
- Confident communicator with gravitas at senior and board level
- Comfortable operating autonomously while thriving in a collaborative team environment
