Locations: Reading (4 days per week) & Swindon (1 day per week). Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.

About the Role

Lead, influence, and shape high‑quality addiction services across two locations. Provide clinical leadership, support multidisciplinary teams, and drive service excellence while meeting contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical leadership and direction across both services.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, effective, evidence‑based treatment aligned to best practice.
  • Support and develop clinical teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders to meet service objectives and contractual requirements.
  • Contribute to service development, shaping how care is delivered across both Reading and Swindon.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical assessment, including psychiatric and physical investigation, for patients presenting to the service.
  • Operate within relevant guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct phlebotomy tests and support nursing team to ensure maximum testing for BBVs and vaccination against Hepatitis A and B.
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate.
  • Participate in continuing professional development, annual appraisal, revalidation, supervision and PDP groups.
  • Work in partnership with users and carers to empower decision‑making in treatment and care.
  • Keep up to date on professional developments as required by professional body.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree and completion of Basic Medical Training; full GMC UK registration with licence to practise.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
  • Good knowledge of addiction psychiatry and legislation relating to Mental Health.
  • Understanding of work of other agencies including non‑statutory services.
  • Experience working with substance misuse and mental health issues; clear understanding of the need for and ability to deliver quality services.
  • Capacity to work independently and stay calm under pressure.
