Location: Manchester | Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week | Contract Type: Permanent | Salary: £27,861.26 – £32,002.35 per annum (pro‑rated for part‑time)
Responsibilities
- Reduce drug‑related harm to individuals and the wider community while keeping harm reduction at the centre of all care models.
- Actively identify service users at risk of contracting Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs) and provide harm‑reduction advice and screening.
- Promote workforce development by increasing testing among volunteers, peer mentors and staff, fostering a culture that embraces the service’s Hep C strategy and achieves sustainable micro‑elimination.
- Advocate for service users to engage with local NHS Trust treatment pathways and attend appointments.
- Collaborate with partner agencies such as the NHS Hep C Trust and Terrence Higgins Trust to offer holistic support.
- Assist the NHS Hepatology nurse with face‑to‑face and remote Hep C clinic duties, ensuring accurate recording of treatment interventions.
- Collect and analyze data to support ongoing surveillance of at‑risk populations.
- Develop innovative models of BBV treatment that reflect local diversity.
- Work with service‑user groups to promote prevention, testing and treatment.
- Support peer and service‑user involvement in health education and protection activities.
- Identify and refer individuals with recent BBV diagnoses or those requiring re‑testing for high‑risk practice.
- Be open to training in new skills such as taking wet bloods, liver fibro‑scanning and presenting cases at NHS Trust MDTs.
Key Activities
- Act as the single point of contact for peer mentors, volunteers, staff and other professionals when required.
- Maintain local systems to meet all data requirements and ensure robust processes for BBV testing.
- Implement BBV pathways across the service, from DBS testing to treatment for Hep B & C and HIV.
- Support the development of robust service frameworks and mechanisms to embed the local BBV strategy as a core deliverable.
- Adjust service provision to match local needs and opportunities for testing (e.g., World Hepatitis Day events).
About You
- Work closely with the Change Grow Live Southwark teams, National Hep C Team and other relevant groups.
- Assist workforce development by enhancing staff knowledge, skills and competencies in BBV provision.
- Encourage individuals with positive BBV diagnoses to attend Hepatology and HIV appointments, linking them to additional support.
- Collect and report performance data in collaboration with national analysts.
- Participate in local team meetings and service‑user forums, including external BBV events.
- Apply a harm‑reduction approach to prevention, early intervention, testing and treatment.
- Collaborate with service‑user groups and peer mentors to advance testing, prevention and treatment outcomes.
- Lead events that increase testing, such as World Hepatitis Day.
- Drive sustainable cultural change that aligns with the service’s BBV ambitions and enhances positive outcomes.
- Deliver on‑site or off‑site face‑to‑face BBV testing and interventions.
- Operate in accordance with COVID‑19 and other infection control and safety measures.
- Hold a suitable qualification or relevant life experience.
