We have an exciting opportunity for a Foreign Nationals Outreach Worker who has the skills and experience to assess and engage with our service users, ensuring that they access the right intervention at the right time, in a way that best meets their needs. The Outreach and Community Team works with service users experiencing substance misuse, rough sleeping, or at risk of homelessness. We are looking for a compassionate, empathetic, and proactive individual who can specialise in engaging EU Nationals to work with services and achieve positive outcomes for those they are supporting.
The successful post holder will be able to communicate effectively with service users from Romania and at least one other EU member state (Czech, Slovakian, Lithuanian, Polish, Latvian, Hungarian).
Location: Barnet
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week (including weekend and evening work)
Contract: Permanent
About the role
This role will report to the Outreach and Community Team Leader within Barnet. You will hold a caseload of EU Foreign Nationals who are experiencing rough sleeping and substance misuse issues. You will work in collaboration with internal teams and partner agencies such as Housing, domestic abuse services, and Dual Diagnosis Mental Health to support service users with complex needs.
- Engage with Foreign Nationals who are rough sleeping or sex working by participating in street‑based outreach sessions at various times of day and night.
- Hold a small caseload of service users known to the Outreach and Community Team and act as the main coordinator providing comprehensive assessments and drug and alcohol support.
- Provide screening, assessment, recovery planning, and onward referral.
- Reduce drug and alcohol‑related harm to service users and the wider community.
- Advocate for access to partnership services.
- Complete planned outreach projects with partner agencies, offer support to any individuals who require assistance, including street counts and satellite delivery for vulnerable groups.
- Work with service users to support social (re)integration, enabling them to lead meaningful and purposeful lives, promoting recovery, resilience, peer support, and self‑determination.
- Collaborate with the Police, the Home Office, and anti‑trafficking agencies when necessary to address issues relating to exploitation and trafficking.
About you
- Strong understanding of substance misuse issues and experience working within a similar field.
- Ability to communicate effectively with service users from at least two EU member states (Czech, Slovakian, Lithuanian, Polish, Latvian, Hungarian, Romanian).
- Proactive and able to work on your own initiative with excellent time‑management and prioritising skills.
- Knowledge of services available in various countries of origin.
- Supportive team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of professionals, agencies, and both internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of information governance processes and commitment to follow and apply all necessary safeguards.
- Willingness to seek out learning opportunities to improve and broaden your professional knowledge and skills, and to contribute to and oversee the learning and development of others.
- Experience working with people who have been trafficked or are victims of modern‑day slavery.

Salary is subject to review in line with the 2025/26 pay award. Salary: £27,861.26 – £32,002.35 (CGL points 23 to 28). Outer London weighting: £2,195.72. This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level.
