Change Grow Live Drug & Alcohol Practitioner co-located with WSCC Family Safeguarding Team – Young Person and Families Service (part of West Sussex Drug and Alcohol Wellbeing Network)

As a CGL Drug & Alcohol Practitioner, you will support parents/carers who use our service to help them achieve their goals. You will be co-located with WSCC Family Safeguarding Team, working in a multi-disciplinary team alongside Children\’s Social Workers, Emotional Wellbeing Practitioners, Domestic Abuse Officers, and Domestic Abuse Victim Practitioners.

At Change, Grow, Live, we support your professional development with bespoke training and protected time for comprehensive induction in collaboration with West Sussex Children\’s Social Care. You will learn to work effectively with parents/carers who use drugs and alcohol and collaborate confidently with other agencies. Our approach focuses on working together to keep families safe and together, when appropriate, as part of the Family Safeguarding Model.
Training includes: Drug and Alcohol Use Awareness, Safeguarding Children and Adults, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, Domestic Abuse Awareness, Group Work Facilitation, and more, tailored to individual needs.

Location & Salary
West Sussex Countywide. We have 4 roles available in Worthing, Mid-Sussex, Horsham, and Chichester.
Full Time Hours: 37.5 per week
Salary Range: £27,861.26 – £32,002.35 depending on experience
Responsibilities
- Support delivery of the YP & Families Service Drug and Alcohol Wellbeing Network (DAWN) across West Sussex, using an Asset-Based Community Development approach.
- Manage a caseload of parents/carers accessing substance use services, ensuring their and their children\’s needs are met through support plans, reviews, and referrals to interventions and medical services.
- Conduct risk assessments and manage safety plans, ensuring safeguarding policies are followed.
- Provide evidence-based family psychosocial interventions, including group work.
- Support and make referrals to the Integrated Front Door – Early Help and Children\’s Services.
- Undertake home visits and support multi-agency discussions and meetings.

Minimum Requirements
- Relevant professional qualification (minimum NVQ 3) and/or substantial experience in related fields such as Drug & Alcohol Services, Mental Health, Social Work, Probation, Nursing, Education, Youth and Community.
- Understanding of interventions and treatment services for substance use issues.
- Experience with services supporting families (Early Help, Children\’s Social Care).
- Knowledge of Children’s Social Care thresholds, referral processes, and interventions.
- Understanding of complex family issues including poverty, antisocial behaviour, domestic abuse, mental health, and homelessness.
- Knowledge of current legislation related to safeguarding and working with families.
