We are actively seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Custody Inreach Worker to contribute to our successful service.

Location: Lewisham

Full Time Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake cell sweeps and liaise with custody staff throughout the shift to speak to detainees, to promote the service and complete referrals.
  • Provide interventions to people identified as substance users and be the navigator for these interventions, advocating on behalf of the service user.
  • Participate with follow up support for those service users recently discharged from the custody suite.
  • Work as part of a team to identify people who have a history of custody suite admission and support them to improve their lives and reduce reoffending.
  • Provide brief interventions including harm minimisation and overdose advice for those in custody, particularly where there is ambivalence about engaging with community services.
  • Work with local providers to ensure the provision of Naloxone is promoted and accessible for those seen in custody, either at the point of release or by accessing their local community service.

About you:

  • Have a strong understanding of substance misuse issues and experience of working within a similar field.
  • Be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written with good IT skills.
  • Knowledge of effective intervention to address and reduce repeat reoffending.
  • Experience of working in a police custody environment.
  • Have a good working knowledge of mental health interventions, services, and good practice.
  • Ability to manage change successfully in a way that prioritises the needs of service users.
  • Understand the importance of information governance processes and commit to follow and apply all necessary safeguards.
  • Seek out learning opportunities to improve and broaden your professional knowledge and skills and to contribute and oversee the learning and development of others.

Salary Range (pro rata if part time): CGL points 23 to 28 (£27,861.26 - £32,002.35)

ILW / OLW / Fringe: Inner London Weighting (£4,133.14)
