We have an exciting opportunity for a Recovery Coordinator - Hepatitis C Specialist to join our team in Birmingham. This is a specialist role for someone with the skills, knowledge and passion to lead on Hepatitis C interventions, supporting service users through testing, treatment, and recovery, while also helping to develop workforce confidence and service-wide approaches to Blood Borne Virus (BBV) prevention and care.

Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.
Responsibilities
With this role you’ll be working as part of the Birmingham Drug and Alcohol team. The team supports people with their or their loved ones’ drug and alcohol issues. As a Hepatitis C Specialist Recovery Coordinator, you will be taking the lead on Hepatitis C interventions across the service, using a whole system, harm-reduction approach to identify and support service users at risk of Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs). You’ll have to record information about what you do, so enjoying a bit of paperwork and attention to detail is important. But most of the time you’ll be enjoying working with people from all backgrounds, making a difference to their lives. No two days are the same and we treat every person who comes into our service as an individual, so being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.
About the role:
- Service User Engagement
- Proactively identify, engage, and support individuals at risk of BBVs.
- Support with testing, communication around diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
- Re-engage service users requiring re-testing or disengaged from care.
- Support attendance at hepatology appointments.
- Ensure adherence to treatment regimens.
- Testing and Screening
- Deliver point-of-care Dry Blood Spot (DBS) testing.
- Promote accessible and routine testing for high-risk groups.
- Harm Reduction and Health Promotion
- Provide harm reduction advice including safer injecting and sexual health.
- Lead awareness campaigns and reduce stigma.
- Partnership and Integrated Working
- Collaborate with NHS Hepatology teams, the Hepatitis C Trust and partner organisations.
- Support community-based clinics and outreach delivery.
- Workforce Development
- Build staff and volunteer confidence in BBV testing and treatment.
- Provide training and ongoing guidance.
- Support the recruitment and training of Hepatitis C volunteers.
- Data Collection, Monitoring and Service Improvement
- Collect and analyse testing and treatment data.
- Contribute to reporting and service improvement.
- Support innovative local models of Hep C care.
- Contribute to continuous service development.
About you:
- Have a strong understanding of substance misuse issues, BBV-related harm and experience of working within a similar field.
- Experience of working with groups/pods and managing group dynamics, such as conflict or challenging behaviour.
- Demonstrable knowledge of clinical prescribing issues.
- Experience of supporting delivery of community opioid detox.
- Proactive and able to work on own initiative with excellent time management and prioritising skills.
- Have a good working knowledge of mental health interventions, services, and good practice.
- Be a supportive team player with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of professionals, agencies, and internal/external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage change successfully in a way that prioritises the needs of service users.
- Understand the importance of information governance processes and commit to follow and apply all necessary safeguards.
- Seek out learning opportunities to improve and broaden your professional knowledge and skills and to contribute and oversee the learning and development of others.
