About the Role
Powertrain development/test technician at CAUK’s test house who will lead engine/powertrain build & instrumentation, test cell installation, cell maintenance/management and contribute to development engine/powertrain testing and data output. Technical assistance will also be required in other areas of advanced testing/development including both rig and vehicle work, e.g. electric drive unit and electric motor build, rigging and testing.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years’ previous experience in automotive engineering in a technical role is required, especially working with powertrains/vehicles. This could be from a powertrain test site or from vehicle work at automotive manufacturers or vehicle service centres.
- Experience of engine/powertrain cell installation and test cell facilities is essential, e.g. rigging hardware, dyno and test cell facilities etc.
- Working knowledge of engine and powertrain test cell operating systems is desirable (AVL PUMA 2 & Sierra CPCADET preferred).
- Working knowledge of automotive calibration & data acquisition tools is beneficial (ETAS INCA/MDA preferred).
Duties & Responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Measured engine and powertrain build for prototype testing.
- Accurate repeatable instrumentation fitment onto powertrains.
- Engine/powertrain fault diagnosis/finding and reporting (measured strips).
- Installations of powertrain components into test cells.
- Management of CAUK’s test cells to ensure quality operation, e.g. daily checks, setting cell operating standards, identification of cell maintenance/calibration requirements.
- Management of test cell installation hardware and best operating practices, e.g. test cell pallets, wing-plate, prop-shafts.
Desirable skills/responsibilities for the role include:
- Operation of the engine and test cell both manually and using the automation system (Cadet V14 and AVL PUMA 2).
- Obtaining test data and initial analysis and interpretation of test results.
- Cooperate in projects for improving test bed consistency and repeatability.
- Support hardware and software utilised for engine testing (e.g. emissions analysers, indicating equipment etc.).
- Fabrication, maintenance, and rebuilds to support engine/powertrain testing.
- Contribute on advanced testing projects including vehicle projects.
Other Features
Primary location will be at Birmingham Business Park. Travel may be required but depends on project requirement.
