Come aboard our dynamic research team at Chambers and Partners as a Research Analyst for our USA team based in London! We are looking for Research Analysts to join our North America-focused research team, which works North America-facing hours from 12pm-8.30pm each day. The North America research team will focus exclusively on US and Canada research, both for the main and Spotlight Guides, with particular emphasis on West Coast and Nationwide areas of research - though research allocation will vary depending on specialism and the requirements of the research schedule.

As a Research Analyst, you will be at the forefront of shaping our renowned Chambers research process. Your adept interviewing skills will be instrumental in gathering invaluable insights from clients and lawyers, enriching our comprehensive analysis of interviews and submissions. Your keen attention to detail will ensure the accuracy of our ranking tables, while your knack for crafting engaging editorials will showcase the strengths of various law firms. Your role will also involve diving into assigned practice areas and jurisdictions, where you will meticulously gather factual information from law firm submissions, deal reports, and business press. Taking ownership of your assigned sections, you will identify and interview key clients and lawyers, ensuring the depth and quality of our research. Regular collaboration with your Research Manager will be key in sharing your findings and insights.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Background research to understand your assigned practice areas and jurisdictions.
  • With the support of the Research Manager, determining which lawyers to contact for interview.
  • Conducting probing interviews with lawyers, asking open-ended questions.
  • Interviewing in-house counsel and other third-party experts by telephone or via an online questionnaire.
  • Accurately logging communications and continually assessing progression of your research.
  • Pursuing research leads gained via materials provided by the Chambers team, or through your own research.
  • Building an understanding of, and relationships with, the key market participants.
Analysis
  • Analysing the data collected during the research phase to create accurate and impartial ranking tables that reflect the market.
  • Developing an understanding of your assigned jurisdictions/practice areas through interviews and desk research.
  • Seeking out and acting upon new developments and opportunities for expansion in the areas you are responsible for.
  • Assessing both law firms and individual lawyers - their key strengths and weaknesses - to provide an accurate hierarchical ranking.
Editorial
  • Producing an informative, business-focused editorial for the Chambers website and print versions of our guides.
  • Fully responsible for the comprehensive nature of this editorial e.g. ensure accuracy, respect the confidentiality of material we handle etc.
  • Identify what makes each firm different, and why it might appeal to a particular type of client.
  • Understand the personalities and key strengths of leading lawyers within the profession.
  • Working to the editorial deadlines i.e. meeting deadlines for research, ranking and editorial writing.
  • Taking ownership of the process i.e. proactively reporting any challenges faced when producing accurate and informative editorial etc.
  • Writing internal reports at the end of a research phase that are called upon to direct research in the future.
