We are looking for a Spanish speaker to join our Latin America research team at Chambers & Partners in London as a Research Analyst. Research Analysts are the core of the Chambers research process: through effective interview techniques they gather feedback on the legal market from clients and lawyers. The role involves the close analysis of interviews and submissions to produce an accurate ranking table. Researchers also write informative editorials that highlight the strengths of particular law firms. They research the practice areas and jurisdictions assigned to them, gather factual data from law-firm submissions, deal reports or business press, and ensure useful contacts are identified and interviewed. They take ownership of each section and discuss findings with their Deputy Editor once research is complete.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Background research to understand assigned practice areas and jurisdictions.
  • With the support of the Research Manager, determine which lawyers to contact for interview.
  • Conduct probing interviews with lawyers, asking open-ended questions.
  • Interview in-house counsel and other third-party experts by telephone or via an online questionnaire.
  • Accurately log communications and continually assess progression of the research.
  • Pursue research leads gained via materials provided by the Chambers team or through independent research.
  • Build an understanding of and relationships with the key market participants.

Analysis

  • Analyse data collected during the research phase to create accurate and impartial ranking tables that reflect the market.
  • Develop an understanding of assigned jurisdictions/practice areas through interviews and desk research.
  • Seek out and act upon new developments and opportunities for expansion in the areas assigned.
  • Assess both law firms and individual lawyers – their key strengths and weaknesses – to provide an accurate hierarchical ranking.

Editorial

  • Produce an informative, business-focused editorial for the Chambers website and print guides.
  • Fully responsible for the comprehensive nature of this editorial – ensure accuracy, respect confidentiality of material handled, etc.
  • Identify what makes each firm different, and why it might appeal to a particular type of client.
  • Understand the personalities and key strengths of leading lawyers within the profession.
  • Work to editorial deadlines – meeting deadlines for research, ranking and editorial writing.
  • Taking ownership of the process – proactively reporting any challenges faced when producing accurate and informative editorial.
  • Write internal reports at the end of a research phase to direct future research.

Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) in both English and Spanish.
  • Degree educated with an interest or experience in conducting research and analysis.
  • Comfortable speaking on the phone to people from varying backgrounds.

Person Specification

  • High attention to detail.
  • Organised and methodical.
  • Demonstrates the ability to meet set deadlines.
  • Intellectually curious.
