This role is an exciting opportunity for development and specialisation. The Principal Research Specialist will take on oversight of our most important sections in the APAC guide, with a focus upon South‐East Asia, South Asia and Central Asia markets. The position will enhance the team's understanding of key work and trends in the region and allow us to more effectively share knowledge and information across our markets.

The successful candidate will be a full member of the senior Asia‐Pacific team working with the Research Director, Head of Research for GCR, the APAC and GCR Research Managers and APAC PRS to set targets for researchers, assess ongoing research and edit copy. The successful candidate will also conduct their own research for some of the region's most important sections and oversee research and future development of relevant coverage in the region.

As PRS you will work with the RMs to offer feedback on Researcher performance and understanding of their areas. In addition to ranking editor responsibilities, the PRS will further disseminate their specialist knowledge to the wider research team through the creation and delivery of training materials and presentations, workshops and potentially research collaboration across research teams. There will be further opportunity to write website copy and other freeform pieces beyond Chambers editorial. The PRS will also serve as an external point of contact for law firms with queries in the South‐East Asian, South Asian and Central Asian jurisdictions including addressing queries, engaging with senior firm leadership, and staying on top of developments and trends in the field. The role affords the opportunity to engage in the highest level of research, and working with colleagues to drive innovation, set strategy and influence the overall direction of the Asia‐Pacific guide.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research at the highest level of your area of expertise in the assigned jurisdictions, having overall responsibility for the quality of research, rankings and editorial in your specialist areas as directed.
  • Working autonomously to develop your in‐depth market research knowledge, sharing this knowledge across the team.
  • Assessing the Chambers coverage, suggesting additions, amendments, and removal of sections.
  • Ranking and editing other researchers' work.
  • Working with DEI and research teams to implement DEI initiatives.
  • Keeping up to date with the development of the assigned jurisdictions.
  • Interview key players in the relevant legal practice area to gather information about law firms' strategies and plans.
  • Influence and persuade all those conducting research within South‐East Asia, South Asia and Central Asia markets, using data and analytics to identify growth opportunities.

Internal Knowledge Sharing and Cross‐Team Collaboration

  • Regularly communicate with the researchers the latest updates, developments, and trends in the market.
  • Coaching core researchers in the areas of your specialism, providing guidance, information regarding best practice.
  • Collaborating with Learning and Development in the planning and delivery of training to researchers concerning your area of expertise.
  • Knowledge sharing: running internal seminars and knowledge sharing sessions for your specialism.
  • To liaise with Customer Success, Events, Marketing, Sales, Technology and senior leadership (when necessary) in order to drive the commercial growth, research participation and market penetration of our products.

Commercial Responsibilities

  • Sharing knowledge with the internal and external market via webinars, and articles for our website.
  • To support the commercial team by providing updates on new research areas and benefits, passing on sales leads etc.
  • Demonstrate a commercial awareness as to where and how we can monetise our products better, with the support and corresponding recognition of other relevant business functions.
  • Work closely with the Product Team on the continuing evolution of Chambers products.
  • Act as an ambassador and internal/external reference point for your jurisdictions. Participating in Chambers events such as Forums and Awards Ceremonies.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of different jurisdictions, particularly the South‐East Asian, South Asian and Central Asian jurisdictions.
  • Strong cultural understanding and awareness of the target markets.
