Working Relationship

As an outreach Tutor for Chalkline, you would be considered an "agency worker". Although we don’t guarantee any number of hours per week, we work differently to most agencies to lower the possibility of tutors' hours dropping below what they need; currently we have over 25 hours per week available immediately, with a potential guaranteed work scheme for the right person. There is no need to register as self‑employed, but if you prefer to do so, we can still work with you.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver tutoring sessions (1:1 or small groups of up to 4 pupils) in Maths and English during term time (08:30-16:30), at schools, pupils' homes, or community venues.
  • Plan and adapt sessions based on individual pupil needs to keep them engaged and have fun.
  • Contact parents/carers/schools to introduce yourself, set up a session schedule, and keep them informed.
  • Submit a timesheet and detailed weekly report for each pupil by Friday.
  • Optionally take on additional pupils outside of your current assignment if you have availability.
  • Receive payment the following week after completing the timesheet/report.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience as a Teacher, Tutor or TA who has adapted and supported learners to overcome barriers.
  • Ability to deliver creative, student‑first education.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent sessions.
  • Experience with resources, printed materials and platforms such as Twinkl, BKSB, MS Teams or Bramble considered an advantage.

Pay & Working Hours

  • 1:1 sessions: £26 - £30 per hour
  • Group assignments: £30 - £40 per hour
  • Higher hourly rates for assignments further from home.
  • Guaranteed work scheme available for the right person.

Training & Support

  • Extensive CPD programme that is COMPLETELY FREE.
  • Support from a team of experienced educators.
  • Potential to be featured as Tutor of the Week.

Administrative Tasks

  • Complete a timesheet and detailed reports by Friday every week for each pupil you work with.
  • Key documents shared via Google Drive on your own individual Chalkline Email address.
  • Self‑employed tutors may send invoices at the end of the week; others only need to send timesheet and report.

Typical Assignment Process (Example)

  • We discuss details of sessions for a pupil in need of support.
  • You contact the parent/carer/school to introduce yourself and set up a session schedule.
  • You agree days/times in line with the request.
  • You deliver sessions in the given subjects (Maths/English) every subsequent week on the same days/times until support is no longer required for that pupil.
  • Each week you submit a timesheet detailing the sessions you complete, and a weekly report of what has taken place in each session, as well as targets to measure the progress made.
  • Note - if you are self‑employed you also send in an invoice at the end of the week. If not, you only need to send the timesheet and report.
  • If you have more availability, you can take on additional pupils outside of your current assignment.
  • You complete each week, and you are paid the following week.
