Chalk Hill Group are partnering exclusively with a leading Professional Services business to appoint an Interim Financial Controller for a 4–6 month assignment. Based in Winchester, this is a key role supporting senior leadership through a period requiring strong financial control, commercial insight, and operational oversight. This opportunity would suit an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller who is comfortable operating within a professional services environment.
The Role:
Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial control while delivering clear, commercially focused insight to support decision-making. This is a broad, hands-on role combining financial stewardship with business partnering across project and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day finance operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and control
- Deliver monthly management accounts with insightful commentary and variance analysis
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, VAT, payroll, and HMRC requirements
- Maintain strong balance sheet control and audit readiness
- Partner with senior stakeholders to provide commercial insight on projects and performance
- Support year-end processes and liaise with external auditors/advisors
Key Skills and Experience include:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or QBE
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role within an SME or professional services environment
- Strong management accounting and cash flow expertise
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence at senior level
- Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail and ownership mindset
- Available at short notice or immediately
