Job Description

The Commercial Legal team at Chainalysis advises both internal and external stakeholders on the forefront of cryptocurrency/blockchain data analytics and is a critical stakeholder in helping drive revenue across the business. Our job is to ensure the company continues its rapid growth by employing sound and risk appropriate judgment to support the Go to Market Team and other functions with commercial contract negotiations and wider commercialisation and revenue generating activities.

As Senior Commercial Counsel, you will be integral in scaling out the global, commercial legal function at Chainalysis and driving smart revenue for the company.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Create, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of data services and SaaS commercial agreements, for both private and public sector customers globally

  • Review and respond to RFPs and tender documentation for public sector customers globally

  • Develop a strong rapport and work in collaboration with our go-to-market, operations, marketing, infosec, engineering and product teams in connection with our transactional goals

  • Work through data privacy (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and security issues in complex commercial transactions

  • Prioritize internal client and external customer satisfaction, while promoting scalable processes and procedures

  • Gain a solid understanding of Chainalysis’ risk appetite and provide commercially astute, risk-appropriate decisions on commercial transactions and on the launch of new products and services

  • Build an A to Z understanding of our sales process and become a trusted business partner to senior sales leadership and other internal stakeholders

  • Become an expert in Chainalysis’ contracting model and a trusted leader in managing quarterly sales cycles

  • Develop a strong understanding of Chainalysis’ products, services and business model

  • Provide commercial guidance outside of the legal realm in furtherance of the company’s objectives

We’re looking for candidates who have:

  • Excellent critical-thinking skills and judgment

  • A Juris Doctorate and solid in-house or top-tier law firm experience in data services and SaaS licensing within the technology industry; experience negotiating with public sector and/or financial institutions strongly preferred

  • Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements for customers across different jurisdictions

  • Experience supporting a global sales team (and understanding of the sales process) at a B2B, rapid growth technology company

  • Experience with, or solid understanding of, GDPR and CCPA in a transactional setting and a demonstrated history of reviewing DPAs, as well as providing guidance on complex compliance and information security issues

  • An independent, patient, and thoughtful demeanor while being adept at managing shifting priorities in a demanding, fast-paced environment

  • Judgment to know when and how to escalate issues

  • Willingness to occasionally support sales teams across the globe outside of local business hours

Nice to have experience:

  • Government contracting experience (whether direct or through reseller/framework arrangements) is a major plus

  • Familiarity with or an interest in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry

This position is ineligible for visa sponsorship.
