Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full-time (Term Time)

At Chailey Heritage School, part of Chailey Heritage Foundation, you will join an Ofsted Outstanding special school where education sits alongside therapy, nursing, care and specialist support services to help children and young people with complex disabilities achieve extraordinary outcomes. This is more than a teaching role. It is an opportunity to be part of a nationally recognised organisation that has been transforming lives for over 120 years, working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team that shares one ambition: helping every young person explore what is possible.

About the role

As a SEND Class Teacher, you will provide high-quality teaching and learning for pupils with physical disabilities, complex communication needs, sensory impairments, medical needs and learning difficulties. Working alongside a skilled class team, including a Lead Education Assistant and Specialist/Education Assistants, you will plan and deliver engaging, individualised learning experiences through our CHILD (Chailey Heritage Individual Learner Driven) Curriculum. You will help pupils develop confidence, communication, independence and the skills they need to achieve meaningful outcomes. You will also play an important leadership role, supporting and developing colleagues within the classroom, building strong relationships with families, working closely with therapists, nurses and other professionals to ensure every pupil receives the very best support.

What makes this role different?

At Chailey Heritage Foundation, you will work within a truly integrated environment where education is just one part of a wider approach to supporting children and young people. You will collaborate with:

  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Nursing and healthcare professionals
  • Families and external professionals

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Is passionate about inclusive education and SEND
  • Can adapt teaching creatively to meet a wide range of complex needs
  • Builds positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Enjoys working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrates resilience, professionalism and a commitment to high standards
  • Shares our values and belief that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential

Experience within SEND, specialist education, SLD, PMLD or complex needs environments would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in hearing from teachers (including newly qualified teachers) with the right values, commitment and willingness to learn.

Why join us?

Teaching at Chailey Heritage Foundation offers something that is difficult to find elsewhere. You will have the opportunity to develop specialist expertise alongside therapists, nurses and education professionals, gaining experience within a nationally recognised centre of excellence for children and young people with complex disabilities. Alongside a competitive salary and teachers’ pension scheme, we offer:

  • Extensive professional development and specialist training opportunities
  • Access to multidisciplinary learning and collaboration
  • Health and wellbeing support, including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Colleague benefits and discount schemes
  • Free on-site parking
  • Access to on-site café
  • The opportunity to work in a beautiful rural setting within the South Downs, with extensive grounds and specialist facilities
  • A supportive culture that values innovation, learning and professional growth

Whether you are already experienced or looking to start your career in specialist education, or looking to deepen your SEND expertise, we will support you to develop your skills and build a rewarding long-term career.
