Join our social media team to create engaging content and research additional content such as relevant current affairs, focusing on Facebook and Instagram.

Chaffinch is still a relatively small charity with a modest annual turnover. However, Chaffinch has scope to make a very real difference to the children of Kibera but we are currently unable to achieve our potential due to a lack of experience and knowledge in some important fields. Finding the right volunteer for this role could mean the difference between a charity that helps a few young people and a charity that generates real opportunity and hope for children to build successful lives for themselves and future generations.

What are we looking for?

  • Our ideal volunteer will have several years' experience with both Facebook and Instagram, and have an awareness of where people are currently engaging with charities as well as the type of content that will capture the attention of an audience.
  • The volunteer will need to be able to adhere to strict ethical guidelines and understand the reasons behind their implementation.
  • It is vital that the volunteer portray the charity and its beneficiaries in a way that supports the overall aims and mission of Chaffinch.
  • A strong understanding of the charity's purpose is essential.
  • An interest in current international affairs and issues of international development would be helpful.
  • Knowledge of Canva is helpful but it's very intuitive so easy to pick up.
  • More than anything else, our ideal volunteer will have a passion for the work of Chaffinch with the children of Kibera.

We love to watch our volunteers grow even if that means growing beyond Chaffinch. We would hope that a volunteer in this role would gain just as much as they give.

What will you be doing?

We need an experienced volunteer (social media management professional or ex-professional) who loves getting stuck into the world of social media and who has several years of experience in the use of Meta channels, preferably including paid marketing on these channels.

Chaffinch is currently building a team with passion for social media. We have underutilised accounts with Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram but we now have a strategy document and effective content pillars etc. plus a constant supply of photographs and videos for publication. We also have a Pro Canva account for templates and other graphic design.

We are looking for one or two people who can engage with our desired audience and produce and manage content that will create a passionate response in our supporters. This role could involve daily interaction with our supporters and wider audience or could involve scheduling content to be managed, on a day-to-day basis, by others. Scheduling content in advance means this role could even be done on just 1 day a week.

Content for each week is dropped in a dedicated WhatsApp group on Saturdays (day can be changed if desired), allowing for scheduling of content, excluding any urgent news/appeals.

We also hope to find a volunteer who is an expert storyteller and can craft engaging paid ads to increase our reach and donor base. We are currently inexperienced with paid advertising on Meta channels but do have a budget available.

We would hope that our perfect volunteer will work well within a team and with the charity's CEO, to whom they will report, and not be afraid to speak up and join in with decision-making. We are looking for someone who can work largely independently although the team will be on hand.

We are a small and friendly charity expecting effort rather than perfection!
