A well established and progressive law firm is seeking an experienced and motivated Private Client Lawyer to join its Care and Capacity Team in Torquay. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with a genuine interest in supporting vulnerable clients and making a meaningful impact through high quality legal advice and representation.
The Role
- Handling a varied and rewarding caseload, including:
- Advising clients and families on all aspects of mental capacity law
- Preparing and advising on Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyship applications
- Representing clients in Court of Protection proceedings
- Managing complex matters involving health and welfare decisions, financial issues, and safeguarding concerns
- Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, social services, and other agencies
- Drafting legal documents and providing clear, practical advice
- Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, case law, and best practice
Candidate Requirements
- Qualification as a Solicitor or Legal Executive
- Experience in private client work, particularly care and capacity matters
- Strong understanding of Court of Protection processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathy, patience, and the ability to support vulnerable clients
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
