Risk and Best Practice Lawyer - Claims, Complaints & Regulatory Compliance - Bristol

Salary: £65,000 - £95,000 (depending on experience)

A leading national law firm is seeking a Risk and Best Practice Lawyer to join its supportive and collaborative Risk and Best Practice team. This is an excellent opportunity to use your legal expertise to help manage complex risks, support the firm's regulatory compliance framework, and contribute to positive operational change across the business.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for advising on and managing a broad range of risk, compliance and professional standards matters, including:

• Assisting with the investigation and management of potential professional negligence issues
• Liaising with internal stakeholders, brokers, insurers and panel law firms
• Supporting the investigation and handling of client complaints
• Investigating potential regulatory breaches, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending practical remedial action
• Responding to enquiries from regulatory bodies
• Supporting practising certificate renewal processes and regulatory authorisations
• Contributing to the annual professional indemnity insurance renewal and wider insurance programmes
• Advising on regulatory and insurance aspects of onboarding senior lateral hires
• Designing and delivering training to legal and Business Services colleagues
• Monitoring legal, regulatory and market developments to identify emerging risks
• Contributing to the development of risk management frameworks, policies and procedures

Candidate Requirements

This role is suited to a qualified solicitor, CiLEx lawyer or legally qualified professional with:

• Experience in law firm risk management, regulatory compliance, professional indemnity, or contentious practice (e.g., litigation or insurance disputes)
• Strong knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to explain complex issues clearly and confidently to different audiences
• A collaborative, supportive and solutions focused approach
• Confidence to identify and resolve issues proactively
• Ability to balance competing priorities and respond appropriately to urgent matters
• Strong organisational skills and willingness to take ownership of tasks and projects
