Are you a skilled legal professional with a passion for supporting vulnerable individuals? This is a standout opportunity for a Solicitor or Legal Executive with solid experience in Court of Protection work to join a dynamic Private Client team in Newton Abbot.
The Role
- You’ll take the lead on a varied and meaningful caseload, working independently while contributing to a collaborative and forward‑thinking team.
- Your work will make a real difference in the lives of elderly, disabled, and vulnerable clients.
- Drafting and submitting Court of Protection applications, including Deputyship, Statutory Wills, and one‑off decisions.
- Managing clients’ financial affairs in partnership with appointed Deputies.
- Preparing annual Deputy Reports and liaising with Costs Draftsmen and the SCCO for billing matters.
- Advising clients directly on financial and personal affairs, safeguarding their interests.
- Liaising with safeguarding teams to protect clients from abuse or exploitation.
- Supporting families, lay Attorneys, and Deputies with empathy and clarity.
- Collaborating with care professionals, social workers, psychologists, and financial advisors.
- Identifying tax, benefits, and care funding issues, including deliberate deprivation of assets.
- Handling property transactions and adaptations through the Court to meet client needs.
- Staying up to date with relevant legislation (Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, Deputy Standards) and case law (Re ACC, Re PW, Lumb).
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years PQE as a Solicitor, Legal Executive, or CILEx.
- ACTAPS or STEP membership is desired but not essential.
- Strong client care skills and a genuine affinity for working with vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to manage a busy caseload with professionalism and compassion.
