Location: St Albans (hybrid - 1 day per week in the office, Wednesdays)

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 + discretionary bonus up to 7.5%

Onboarding: Full-time office attendance for the first few weeks

My client is seeking a Legal Executive or Solicitor to join its Clinical Negligence team in St Albans. This role is primarily focused on defendant clinical negligence work, with additional involvement in inquests, regulatory matters, and some employers' and public liability claims. You will manage your own caseload and provide legal advice and claims handling support to NPA members and NPAI policy holders. You’ll be joining a supportive team of six.

Key responsibilities
  • Providing legal advice to members and policy holders
  • Managing claims in line with pre‑action protocols and the Civil Procedure Rules
  • Liaising with members, claimants, solicitors, experts, insurers and other stakeholders
  • Logging and assessing incident notifications
  • Investigating liability and communicating decisions
  • Collating medical evidence and assessing compensation
  • Formulating offers and negotiating settlements
  • Assessing and negotiating costs
Essential requirements
  • Solicitor or CILEx with 2-3 years PQE
  • At least 2 years' experience in clinical negligence, occupational disease or personal injury (claimant background welcome)
  • Good understanding of contract, tort, criminal law and civil procedure
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently
  • Excellent customer service, negotiation and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and confidence on the phone
  • Competent IT skills and ability to build relationships
