A specialist opportunity has arisen for an experienced Court of Protection Solicitor to join a well established and expanding team in Cardiff. This role is ideal for a compassionate and motivated lawyer committed to supporting vulnerable clients, including individuals with traumatic brain injuries or neurological conditions affecting their capacity to manage financial affairs. The position offers exposure to high value and complex deputyship matters, alongside opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities and contribute to team development.
The Role
- Manage your own varied caseload and undertake a broad range of responsibilities, including:
- Preparing and managing applications to appoint professional and lay deputies
- Advising on Personal Injury Trusts and attorneyship matters
- Preparing and managing Statutory Will applications
- Advising on applications under sections 36(9) and 54 of the Trustee Act 1925
- Preparing annual Deputy Reports for the Office of the Public Guardian
- Working alongside personal injury and clinical negligence teams on compensation matters
- Supporting high value and complex deputyships with senior colleagues
- Ensuring clients receive all state benefits and managing budgets, forecasts, investments and tax returns
- Handling sensitive family dynamics with professionalism and empathy
- Assisting with property purchases, adaptations, insurance and ongoing management
- Liaising with case managers and therapy professionals
- Supervising and mentoring junior team members
- Attending networking and marketing events to support team growth
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified solicitor with strong Court of Protection experience (3+ years PQE preferred)
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and OPG Deputy Standards
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- A compassionate, approachable and reliable manner
- Ability to manage a busy and varied caseload independently
