A nationally recognised, Tier 1 ranked defendant professional negligence practice is seeking an Associate to join its highly respected Financial & Professional Risks (FPR) team. Acting for insurers, brokers and a wide range of insurance sector clients, the team handles complex and high profile matters across the legal, financial services, property, technology, media and consultancy sectors. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a market leading practice working on challenging, high value and novel areas of professional liability and insurance law.
The Role
You will advise and represent policyholders in contentious matters before the County Court, High Court, TCC, commercial courts and through the Financial Ombudsman Service and other consumer redress schemes. Responsibilities include:
- Handling complex professional indemnity, D&O, FI and coverage matters
- Advising on scope of duty, breach, causation, quantum and policy liability issues
- Reporting to insurer clients in line with strict service standards, including accurate reserving, case planning and proactive strategy execution
- Applying strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules, including costs management, funding, Part 36, interim applications, disclosure and expert instructions
- Keeping up to date with civil procedure reforms and pilot schemes (Online Court, Fixed Recoverable Costs, Disclosure Pilot etc.)
- Delivering commercial, cost effective claims solutions through ADR, expert/QC determinations, arbitration, adjudication and negotiation
- Building strong relationships with policyholders, insurers, brokers and Counsel
- Developing a deep understanding of the professional indemnity insurance market
- Supporting marketing and business development initiatives within the team
