A leading international law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its market leading Disease team in Bristol. This senior role is ideal for a specialist litigator with deep expertise in disease claims, particularly within the insurance sector. The successful candidate will lead complex, high value matters, provide strategic support to key clients, and play a central role in the continued growth and development of the team. This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of disease litigation, including emerging risk areas, within a collaborative, high performing practice recognised for its sector strength.

The Role

  • Client & Matter Management
    • Lead on complex, high value disease claims, including EL/PL matters and legacy/emerging disease risks
    • Provide strategic, commercially focused advice to insurer and corporate clients
    • Act as a trusted adviser, building long term client relationships
    • Ensure matters are managed efficiently, profitably and in line with SLAs and firm standards
  • Technical Excellence & Leadership
    • Demonstrate advanced technical expertise across contentious, procedural and evidential aspects of disease litigation
    • Supervise and mentor associates, senior associates and wider team members
    • Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical training and thought leadership
  • Business Development & Profile Raising
    • Support business development initiatives, pitches and tenders
    • Assist with client relationship management and cross selling opportunities
    • Contribute to seminars, publications and client training
  • Team & Firm Contribution
    • Promote a positive, inclusive and high performance team culture
    • Support the strategic objectives of the Disease practice
    • Collaborate with colleagues across national and international offices

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • England & Wales qualified solicitor with significant PQE in disease litigation
  • Strong background acting for insurers and/or large corporate defendants
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads with limited supervision
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and advocacy support skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and client focused approach
  • Experience supervising and developing junior lawyers

Desirable

  • Experience leading or contributing to major group claims or legacy disease portfolios
  • Involvement in business development or client relationship management
  • Sector knowledge aligned with insurance and related markets
