Job Description

Associate – Risk & Best Practice

Location: Bristol

New fantastic opening to join a forward-thinking Risk & Best Practice team where your expertise will shape how a leading law firm manages risk, drives compliance, and supports business growth.

This is a standout opportunity to step into a broad, high-impact role working across the business, advising on everything from client contracts to regulatory change.

The Role

As a Risk & Regulatory Associate, you’ll play a key role in the firm’s success and you can expect your day-to-day duties to include:

  • Reviewing and advising on client engagement terms, codes of conduct, and internal policies
  • Supporting business development and marketing from a compliance perspective
  • Leading updates to engagement letters and terms of business
  • Advising on secondments, international work, and subcontracting arrangements
  • Developing and maintaining compliance policies and procedures
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and driving change where needed
  • Delivering training and raising awareness of risk and compliance issues
  • Providing legal research and advice on regulatory matters (e.g. SRA Standards & Regulations)
  • Supporting internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Representing the team on internal projects and committees
  • Mentoring junior colleagues and helping grow the team’s capabilities

Candidate Requirements

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • A current practising certificate or solid experience in legal risk and compliance
  • Strong background in commercial contract review and negotiation
  • Working knowledge of the SRA Handbook and key regulatory frameworks (e.g. AML)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive, adaptable approach to juggling priorities and deadlines.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing
