Chadderton Medical Practice is looking for a suitable registered nurse with experience in working in General Practice to join our team. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and effective general nursing care to the practice population. The candidate will work collaboratively with the whole practice to provide routine nursing duties and in addition will work closely to support the practice partners and clinical team to achieve the indicators identified across all our clinical programmes.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the implementation of processes for the effective management of patients with long-term conditions, childhood vaccination & immunisations and screening programmes.
  • The practice nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas such as health promotion, chronic disease management, health prevention, as well as supporting the management team in the reviewing of clinical policy and procedure.

Friendly 4 partner practice in Chadderton, Oldham seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to work with our team. Our team consists of 4 partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 1 practice nurse, 1 HCA, 2 Trainee Nurse Associates, 10 secretaries/admin staff members including 1 Practice Manager. We are an enthusiastic team with the sense of humour necessary to deal with the ups and downs of General Practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered safely with regard to protocols.
  • Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.
  • Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines.
  • Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral.
  • Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
  • Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines.
  • Take ECGs.
  • Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Assist in the provision of minor surgery.
  • With relevant training, authorisation and experience, practitioners may be trained to use a set of specific patient group directives (PGD).
  • Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, sterilizer and emergency equipment.
  • Confidentiality of information gained at work must be preserved at all times.
  • Administer nebulizer therapy.

Managerial

  • Contribute to the assessment of service needs.
  • Assist patients to identify their health needs.
  • Contribute a nursing perspective to the Practice development plan.
  • Manage and organise individual patient consultations.
  • Aware of identification and reporting procedures related to professional standards.
  • To attend staff meetings.
  • Ensure effective relationships and communications with the PHCT and other agencies.
  • Support the Practice clinical governance agenda.
  • Identify changes to clinical practice that are required to implement evidence-based guidelines.

Educational

  • Identify personal development and training needs in conjunction with the manager.
  • Participate in clinical supervision.
  • Support others with their training and development needs.
  • To participate in continuing education and maintain a contemporary level of professional knowledge and skills.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to provide quality care, good interpersonal and communication skills, basic IT skills.
  • Experience: Experience of working within a Nursing Team, experience of working in a GP practice.
  • Qualifications: Qualified Nurse, Registered with NMC, General Practice Nursing experience, Cervical screening, Long term condition management, ie. Diabetes, Respiratory, Cardio-Vascular, Immunisations and vaccinations, General Practice Nursing responsibilities.
