Background to the role:
The role sits in the CGTN Europe Digital team. In this role you will work as directed to fulfil the editorial mission across multiple platforms. Your duties may vary according to shift patterns and the demands of the business.
The media is a constantly evolving industry and as new platforms and technologies change opportunities and audience habits, CGTN will evolve to keep pace.
In general, you will be required to manage publishing of content on various social media channels and other platforms. You will use your knowledge of these channels to maximise the impact of posts and work with members of the digital, television and newsgathering teams to optimise content production.
You will also be involved in identifying, researching, producing and/or publishing news stories in video or text. Writing, video editing and gathering voices as well as creating social media posts will all be required as part of the role. You may also be involved in commissioning correspondents and collaborating on short and longer-term projects.
You will be expected to share your knowledge of social media to help support colleagues in all roles through the newsroom, conduct training where required and keep the team up to date with analytics and best practices.
Job objectives:
- Plan, schedule and post content on CGTN's social channels to achieve maximum impact and fulfil team objectives.
- Produce daily multimedia news or feature content for television, CGTN.com and CGTN Europe and various social media platforms.
- Manage the publication of content produced by other members of the team and adapt content created for other platforms such as television.
- React to data around user behaviour to optimise content for the best performance on each channel.
- Train new or existing employees and support them where required. Act as a role model and ambassador across the newsroom.
- Adhere to CGTN editorial policies, while producing content that is creative and engaging for a global audience.
- Produce copy and content and be part of strict approvals process from content creation to copy editing and final approval before publishing.
- Keep on top of trending stories and contribute ideas to improve coverage on a given topic or event.
- Perform Facebook Lives or pieces to camera and interview guests either live or as part of a pre-prepared package.
- Identify the best formats for telling a story and make use of them according to deadlines and priorities.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and proficiency in the latest digital technology and systems across websites and social media platforms.
- Thrive under pressure, and be prepared to adapt as circumstances change.
- Be able to work irregular hours and an extended schedule as the news cycle demands.

Person specification:
Confident working in a high-pressure fast-paced environment, you will be able to work with little supervision and as part of a team. You will be full of creative ideas both for story subjects and presentation formats and always willing to experiment. At the same time, you will bring accuracy and attention to detail to everything you do. You will be confident in giving guidance and instruction to colleagues.
Essential:
- Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years experience in digital journalism, preferably with an international broadcaster.
- Extensive knowledge of current events, culture, sport, fashion and/or geopolitics and international relations, especially Europe & Asia.
- Video editing, scripting and clean, accurate article writing.
- In-depth understanding of social media both as a source of stories and an output platform.
- Awareness of journalism ethics and legal principles.
- Ability to form contacts and use them to discover and inform story reporting.
