About the role

The Senior Multi-Skilled Operator (Senior MSO) is an experienced operational role responsible for supporting the smooth technical delivery of live and recorded programming across studio operations. In addition to core Multi-Skilled Operator responsibilities (autocue/audio comms/floor management), the Senior MSO will provide technical expertise across audio mixing, robotic cameras, graphics, vision-mixing, and lighting operations. The role requires advanced operational experience and judgement, and the ability to react quickly and calmly in a live news environment. A deep operational knowledge of audio, vision and lighting are a vital part of the role as is a fundamental technical knowledge of gallery operations.

Job objectives:

  • Support the technical operation of live and recorded studio productions.
  • Operate and effectively use various technologies including autocue, studio graphics, floor management equipment, audio desks, robotic cameras, vision mixers, and lighting systems.
  • Support gallery and studio workflows to ensure smooth and technically accurate programme output.
  • Work closely with Directors, Producers, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality broadcasts.
  • Provide operational leadership and guidance to MSOs and freelance operators during live output.
  • Help maintain operational standards, workflows, and studio best practices.
  • Test the functionality of all necessary equipment before live and pre-recorded news or programmes.
  • Be prepared to work varied shift hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Excel at work within a culturally and ethnically diverse staff.

Required Experience:

In order to be successful in this role you must be fluent in English - written and oral. You will have extensive experience as a Studio Operator and be confident with production gallery workflows. You should be used to the pressure of working in a live, preferably news, environment. You will be a team player, understanding the CGTN vision and strategic goals and how studio operations can contribute to making these happen.
