At CGL we pride ourselves on being different, unique and true experts in our field. As a Graduate at CGL you will be involved in all aspects of a project from “cradle to grave”, gaining real experience of all stages of a project within a supportive team. You will gain exposure to a wide range of geological settings and ground hazards whilst working on a wide variety projects across the UK.
You will be assigned to one of our offices (Harrogate, London, Tiverton (South West) or Billericay, Essex) but you may be working away from home for periods of time.
Our dynamic team is involved in projects of all shapes and sizes, from large scale infrastructure projects (with a strong focus in Scotland) to local commercial and residential developments.

What You’ll Be Doing
This is a hands-on, primarily site-based role where no two days are the same. You’ll join our expert team to:
- Support intrusive investigations (e.g., drilling, sampling, in-situ testing)
- Log soils and rocks to BS standards
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Keep detailed site records, complete RAMS, and manage H&S documentation
- Begin developing report writing and data interpretation skills
- In time, take ownership of site activities, with strong support from experienced mentors
Enthusiastic, graduate geologists who:
- Hold a BSc (or MSc) in Geology, Geoscience, Engineering, or similar
- Thrive on working outdoors, independently and in teams
- Want to grow their technical and reporting skills toward Chartership
- Have a full UK driving licence and are happy to travel/stay away as needed
You may also have:
CSCS Card, First Aid, EURS CAT 1 & 2, SSSTS or IOSH
Awareness of environmental legislation or industry H&S best practices
