As a Technical Lead at CGI, you’ll help a client modernise its observability capability, moving from Splunk to a target stack using Grafana, Cribl and Loki. You’ll shape the technical solution, guide implementation and help the team deliver a reliable, secure and supportable service.
You’ll join a five-person agile squad alongside a Delivery Lead, Business Analyst and two Developers. Working closely with the Business Analyst, you’ll translate business, operational and reporting requirements into practical technical designs. You’ll remain involved throughout delivery, supporting Developers, resolving technical challenges and assuring quality through migration, cutover and removal of the legacy implementation.
Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position - 2-3 days in the office.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
- You’ll own technical guidance and assurance within delegated authority.
- Assess existing Splunk use cases, data sources, queries, dashboards, alerts, reports and integrations, building on the Business Analyst’s requirements and current-state mapping.
- Define how agreed requirements will work in Grafana, Cribl and Loki, documenting target designs, data flows, component responsibilities and integration dependencies.
- Address performance, capacity, availability, resilience, recovery, retention and cost requirements, with measurable checks to validate the solution.
- Develop the technical migration approach, covering sequencing, coexistence, data validation, rollback, historical-data needs and continuity of service.
- Break designs into deliverable work with the Developers and contribute estimates, technical dependencies and assumptions to refinement and sprint planning.
- Provide day-to-day technical guidance, help investigate complex issues and resolve or escalate blockers with clear recommendations and delivery impacts.
- Review significant code and configuration changes, test coverage and implementation evidence, maintaining alignment with agreed designs and engineering standards.
- Embed client security, access and data-handling controls into the solution, involving architecture, security and service specialists where required.
- Define monitoring and failure detection for the observability platform itself, including telemetry loss, processing failures and dependency health.
- Assess technical and operational readiness, support authorised cutover and verify that the agreed legacy Splunk implementation and obsolete integrations have been decommissioned.
- Maintain technical decisions, risks and debt, and support documentation, knowledge transfer and handover to service teams.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
- You’ll bring experience leading technical delivery in a client environment, combining observability expertise with practical solution design and strong communication skills.
- Experience designing and delivering observability, monitoring or log-management solutions in enterprise environments.
- Practical knowledge of Splunk and experience with Grafana, Cribl, Loki or comparable technologies, with the ability to assess migration implications across the target stack.
- Experience mapping requirements to technical designs, data pipelines, integrations, dashboards, alerts and reporting.
- Understanding of non-functional requirements, secure data handling, resilience and operational supportability.
- Experience supporting platform migrations, including coexistence, validation, cutover and decommissioning.
- Ability to guide Developers, review technical work, investigate issues and communicate options and trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience working in agile teams, contributing to estimation, work decomposition, dependency management and continuous improvement.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and support effective operational handover.
