As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing digital platforms that improve accessibility, user experience, and service delivery for millions of users. Working within multidisciplinary agile teams, you will contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of modern cloud-based applications and services.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position with occasional travel to Coventry or Manchester.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
- Design & Develop secure, scalable applications using C# .NET and ASP.NET technologies
- Build & Maintain modern web applications using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and responsive design principles
- Develop & Support RESTful APIs and backend services for digital platforms
- Implement & Enhance event-driven architectures using Azure Service Bus, Queue Storage, and messaging technologies
- Manage & Optimise data storage solutions including SQL Server, Cosmos DB, Redis Cache, and Blob Storage
- Collaborate & Deliver within agile, multidisciplinary teams following GDS standards and best practices
- Apply & Champion modern engineering practices including TDD, CI/CD, and automated testing
- Support & Improve identity and access management solutions using Azure AD, OAuth, Gov One Login, and DfE Sign-in
- Contribute & Innovate on mobile-first digital experiences and CMS-driven solutions such as Contentful
- Maintain & Strengthen application security through remediation activities, IT Health Checks, and penetration testing recommendations
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong software engineering experience across Microsoft technologies, cloud-native development, and modern software delivery practices. You will be comfortable working within agile environments, collaborating with stakeholders, and delivering secure, user-focused digital services. Experience working within government or highly regulated environments would be advantageous.
Essential qualifications:
- Strong experience developing applications using C# .NET and ASP.NET
- Experience building modern front-end web applications using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
- Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs
- Knowledge of Azure cloud services and associated platform technologies
- Experience with SQL Server and other modern data storage technologies
- Understanding of event-driven architectures and messaging technologies
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment practices
- Strong understanding of Test Driven Development (TDD) and software engineering best practices
- Knowledge of Git-based version control systems such as GitHub
- Understanding of authentication and authorisation technologies including Azure AD and OAuth
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Desirable qualifications:
- Experience working within GDS standards and Government Digital Service delivery frameworks
- Experience with Cosmos DB, Redis Cache, and Azure Blob Storage
- Knowledge of NServiceBus or similar messaging frameworks
- Experience with Contentful or similar CMS platforms
- Exposure to Gov One Login and DfE Sign-in solutions
